B/R Experts Predict Top Matches in World Football for Weekend of May 9-10

Ian RodgersMay 7, 2015

Another weekend closer to the end of the season, and the action is beginning to heat up.

Chelsea might already be Premier League champions, but Liverpool will travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday with their eyes still on a Champions League spot.

The Reds' success in reaching the top four could depend on Manchester United, who are in London 24 hours earlier for their game at Crystal Palace as they look to extend their lead over the Merseyside club.

In Spain, La Liga is heading to a tense finale with Real Madrid aiming to keep up the pressure on Barcelona with a win over Valencia at the Bernabeu.

Bayern Munich are already German champions this season, but their weekend opponents Augsburg still have European ambitions.

In Serie A, AC Milan have proved to be a major disappointment this season, but three points against second-placed Roma could offer a silver lining to the season at the San Siro.

So, do you agree with our experts' predictions for this weekend? Let us know in the comments below.

Crystal Palace vs. Manchester United

1 of 6

Alex Livie: Crystal Palace 0-0 Manchester United

The Red Devils have stuttered of late but a point will help them fall over the line and into the Champions League places.

Karl Matchett: Crystal Palace 2-1 Manchester United

First goalscorer: Wilfried Zaha

Blind faith, nothing more. Palace is set to continue a rotten run for Louis van Gaal’s men.

Sam Tighe: Crystal Palace 1-2 Manchester United

First goalscorer: Wayne Rooney

Palace fought well at Stamford Bridge and exited holiday mode, but it wasn't enough. United, eager to get back to winning ways, will edge this one.

Will Tidey: Crystal Palace 1-2 Manchester United

First goalscorer: Ashley Young

Manchester United badly need a win. I think they'll scrape this one, but it won't be glorious.

Mike Cummings: Crystal Palace 1-2 Manchester United

First goalscorer: Wayne Rooney

Both teams have lost three straight league matches, but for me, the difference is that United are still chasing something. A win and top-four finish is all but certain.

Real Madrid vs. Valencia

2 of 6

Alex Livie: Real Madrid 3-1 Valencia

First goalscorer: Sergio Ramos

Real have Champions League on their minds, but they cannot afford to slip up in La Liga and will get the job done at the Bernabeu

Karl Matchett: Real Madrid 2-1 Valencia

First goalscorer: Cristiano Ronaldo

Real will have it slightly easier than last week at Sevilla, but not by much. Every game is a final for them now.

Sam Tighe: Real Madrid 3-1 Valencia

First goalscorer: Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid's title push continues as they make light work of Valencia. Los Che aren't formidable away from home.

Will Tidey: Real Madrid 3-0 Valencia

First goalscorer: Cristiano Ronaldo

Another game, another win for Real Madrid, as the Liga race gets hotter still.

Mike Cummings: Real Madrid 2-1 Valencia

First goalscorer: Cristiano Ronaldo

Real simply can't afford to slip up now, with three games left and Barcelona still two points ahead. Cristiano Ronaldo surely won't let that happen.

AC Milan vs. Roma

3 of 6

Alex Livie: AC Milan 1-0 Roma

First goalscorer: Keisuke Honda

It's been an awful season for Milan, but they can gain a welcome win at home to Roma.

Karl Matchett: AC Milan 1-1 Roma

First goalscorer: Andrea Poli

Roma should probably do enough over the remaining games to take a top-three finish. This isn’t a great result, but it’ll do.

Sam Tighe: AC Milan 0-2 Roma

First goalscorer: Seydou Doumbia

The Rossoneri are a shambles and it shows again. They will lose another game to nil in front of an empty San Siro.

Will Tidey: AC Milan 0-1 Roma

First goalscorer: Francesco Totti

This is a tight one, obviously, with the evergreen Totti popping up with the winner.

Mike Cummings: AC Milan 0-2 Roma

First goalscorer: Seydou Doumbia

Roma have regained second place, and they shouldn't have any trouble with an out-of-sorts Milan.

Bayern Munich vs. Augsburg

4 of 6

Alex Livie: Bayern Munich 3-0 Augsburg

First goalscorer: Thomas Muller

Bayern are likely to shuffle their pack with Barcelona looming next week, but they will still have enough to see off Augsburg.

Karl Matchett: Bayern Munich 4-0 Augsburg

First goalscorer: Robert Lewandowski

Bayern will get back into the swing of things with a big win.

Sam Tighe: Bayern Munich 2-0 Augsburg

First goalscorer: Sebastian Rode

Bayern won't play their stars, but it won't matter. Augsburg are no Bayer Leverkusen.

Will Tidey: Bayern Munich 5-0 Augsburg

First goalscorer: Thomas Muller

There will be no complacency this week from Bayern, who'll dispatch Ausburg even without a few of their big names.

Mike Cummings: Bayern Munich 1-1 Augsburg

First goalscorer: Tobias Werner

Bayern are reeling after the loss to Barcelona. Augsburg still have a chance to qualify for the Europa League. Sounds like a draw.

Chelsea vs. Liverpool

5 of 6

Alex Livie: Chelsea 2-0 Liverpool

First goalscorer: Diego Costa

The title is wrapped up, but Jose Mourinho is still protecting an unbeaten home record in the league and will not want to surrender it.

Karl Matchett: Chelsea 0-1 Liverpool

First goalscorer: Steven Gerrard

Liverpool will give Chelsea a guard of honour and then a footballing lesson, complete with clean sheet. It’s 2009, right?

Sam Tighe: Chelsea 1-1 Liverpool

First goalscorer: Willian

It'll be light-hearted from Chelsea and could well be a reserve side following their title win.

Will Tidey: Chelsea 1-1 Liverpool

First goalscorer: Steven Gerrard

Liverpool will put up a fight at the Bridge, with Stevie G. notching as he continues his long goodbye.

Mike Cummings: Chelsea 2-1 Liverpool

First goalscorer: John Terry

Boring? Yes. But Chelsea have been the Premier League's best team all season. Now that the pressure is off, will we see a more free-flowing game?
