Jose Mourinho Slams Manchester City FFP Breach, Calls for Points Deduction
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has said that Manchester City should have been docked points for breaching UEFA's financial fair play (FFP) regulations.
According to Ian Ladyman of the Daily Mail, the Chelsea boss spoke of the overall ethos of City, who ran afoul of FFP last year and were fined £49 million. They were also hit with a spending cap.

"When Manchester City pays off a £50 million fine because they exceeded the FFP, I think it’s unfair. FFP should be fulfilled and that's it.
[Clubs] should be punished with loss of points. Our owner [Roman Abramovich] wants to fulfil FFP. He doesn’t want to enter these dynamics of paying the fine.
FFP benefits clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern, who have a big fan base and get huge revenues on sponsorship and merchandising. At Chelsea, for instance, we refuse to pay any fine. We live with what we produce.
"
Mourinho went on to explain why he feels FFP is so important: "It forces us to be better, to manage better our resources, to live with what we create. It forces us to think more. We have to sell in order to buy, to be aware of what you sell and what you buy."
FFP rules dictate that clubs may not spend beyond their means or make losses beyond €45 million over three seasons, among other things, according to financialfairplay.co.uk.

Despite the spending cap imposed by UEFA, City have continued to splash the cash in recent transfer windows, signing Eliaquim Mangala for a record £42.9 million last summer and Wilfried Bony for £28 million in January.
Meanwhile, Chelsea, who have spent big on the likes of Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and Juan Cuadrado, balanced their books with the sales of David Luiz, Romelu Lukaku and Andre Schurrle.

Chelsea have all but clinched the title this year, but should Man City suffer a points deduction in the future, the Blues would gain a huge boost with one of their title rivals effectively ruled out of contention.
With the Sky Blues currently trailing the west London club by 13 points in the league, it's clear a major squad overhaul is needed in the summer.

That will require further spending, so City must ensure that the cost of incoming players is met by fees received for the players set to be offloaded, which could include Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic, per James Robson of the Manchester Evening News.
Whether UEFA will go as far as to deduct points remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: To avoid further punishment, Manchester City must fall in line with FFP.
