EPL Table: Updated Premier League Standings, Fixtures, Title Odds After Week 34

Gianni VerschuerenApr 26, 2015

Chelsea and Arsenal almost predictably played out a scoreless draw during Sunday's slate of Premier League fixtures, giving the Blues a 10-point lead at the top of the standings entering the final weeks of the season.

In truth, the title race is over, although Chelsea still haven't mathematically secured the trophy. Sunday's draw means that won't change in midweek, when Jose Mourinho's men play Leicester City.

Elsewhere, Manchester United suffered a shock 3-0 loss against Everton, meaning the race for next year's Champions League is far from over. Here's a look at the results from Week 34:

The Title Race

No, Chelsea still haven't officially won the Premier League title. But let's be honest: The race is over. The Blues hold a 10-point lead over Arsenal and Manchester City, with five matches left to be played. The Gunners and Citizens need a miracle to pass the Blues in the standings, and then some.

Going into Sunday's clash, everyone assumed Chelsea would just shut things down defensively and continue their excellent record against other top teams. As shared by WhoScored.com, Arsene Wenger in particular has never found any form of success against Mourinho:

After their dominant campaign, is it really a surprise they were successful again on Sunday?

The Times' Oliver Kay seemed to voice what most were thinking:

You can dislike Mourinho's tactics or disapprove of his playing style all you want, but there's simply no denying the Blues have been the best team in the Premier League all season. And in a few short weeks, they'll have the silverware to back up that claim.

The Battle for Europe

Manchester City and Arsenal remain the clear favourites to join Chelsea in next year's Champions League, but behind the trio, Manchester United's 3-0 loss against Everton has opened the door for Liverpool to make a late push for the final ticket.

Manager Louis van Gaal knows his team are facing a real battle going into the final weeks, as shared by the club's official Twitter account:

The Reds still have a match in hand and can close the gap with United to just four points with four matches left on the schedule. United remain the favourites, and with Liverpool struggling in recent weeks, the race may come down to whichever team can recover from their current lack of form the quickest.

Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton likely squandered their final realistic shot at the Champions League by playing each other to a 2-2 draw on Saturday, as shared by Fox Soccer:

The two sides are locked in an entertaining battle for a Europa League spot, while keeping an eye on the upcoming FA Cup final between Aston Villa and Arsenal. If Villa fail to beat the Gunners, the Europa League ticket that usually goes to the cup winners will revert back to the Premier League, and both will likely make it through.

The Fight Against Relegation

Leicester City's win streak couldn't have come at a better time, as the Foxes have now won four matches in a row, as shared by Squawka:

Following their 1-0 win over Burnley on Saturday, Leicester suddenly sit in 17th place, one point ahead of Sunderland.

Queens Park Rangers and Burnley will need a drastic turnaround to avoid relegation to the Championship, but Leicester City now hold their destiny in their own hands. Keeping their win streak alive against Chelsea will be a brutal task, but with Sunderland and QPR still on the schedule in the final two weeks, the Foxes have to like their chances of surviving the drop.
