Quarter-Finals Recap

Sevilla were made to sweat on their Europa League future in Russia, but an 85th-minute strike from Kevin Gameiro ensured the title holders will continue their pledge to claim back-to-back Europa League crowns.

Gameiro's finish came some 79 minutes after Carlos Bacca opened the scoring in St. Petersburg, sealing a 2-2 draw at Zenit after Salomon Rondon and Hulk pulled the hosts to within inches of extra time.

Hulk's finish in particular was deserving of its praise as he caught Sevilla stopper Beto off his line to score from long range.

However, Unai Emery had a clinical weapon of his own, and Gameiro's precision finish earned the praise of the Mirror's Alex Richards:

After claiming a 4-1 win in Germany last week, Napoli took a great deal of pressure off their shoulders heading into Thursday's second-leg fixture, but it didn't stop Rafa Benitez's men from being just as ruthless against Wolfsburg.

The Italian giants put the finishing touches on a 6-3 aggregate win thanks to goals from wide pair Jose Callejon and Dries Mertens, with football writer Samuel Jay C noting just how quickly things can turn:

After enjoying a six-match unbeaten run across March and April, the Wolves are now three games without a victory, a drought they haven't endured since the very start of their domestic campaign.

Dieter Hecking can at least be pleased with the grit shown by his side in the second half as they grabbed two quick-fire goals through Timm Klose and Ivan Perisic to draw level.

And just as Napoli held on to move past their foes, fellow Italians Fiorentina wrapped up their own spot in the last four thanks to a 2-0 victory over Dynamo in Florence.

Mario Gomez put the hosts ahead on the evening and in the aggregate scoreline with his 43rd-minute finish, but it wasn't until Juan Vargas' stoppage-time second the result became assured. That being said, Squawka illustrated just how dominant La Viola were:

Vincenzo Montella's side have the opportunity for an all-Italian final ahead of them—depending on the outcome of Friday's draw—in what's been a great week for Serie A sides following Juventus' Champions League progress.

And finally, Yevgen Shakhov came off the bench to send Dnipro through to the Europa League semi-finals, although as OptaJohan points out, Club Brugge weren't quite daunting opponents:

The Ukraine giants produced the only goal across the two legs of their quarter-final, leaving it late to secure their future in the competition, but secure it nonetheless.
