Barclays Under-21 Premier League 2015 Table: Latest Scores, Results, Standings

Gianni VerschuerenApr 20, 2015

Leicester City managed to hold a star-studded Manchester United team to a 1-1 draw during Monday's Under-21 Premier League action, but Norwich City couldn't take advantage, conceding late against Everton and losing out on the top spot in Group 1.

An early penalty and red card saw Arsenal lose 3-2 at Middlesbrough, another setback in what has been a disappointing campaign for the Gunners.

Everton were in action once more on Thursday, but slipped to a 3-0 defeat against Chelsea, who climb back within touching distance of the table summit as a result.

Friday Recap

Aston Villa and West Ham United recorded shock wins over Arsenal and Manchester City, respectively, throwing yet another wrinkle into the U21 Premier League championship.

Villa scored all four goals in their 3-1 win over Arsenal, as the unfortunate Kevin Toner handed the Gunners their only goal of the match just after half-time, but the Birmingham side were in full control throughout the match.

You can listen to the highlights of their massive win, courtesy of the club's official Twitter account:

Jerrell Sellars gave the visitors an early lead, and he set up Tom Leggett to double Villa's advantage just before half-time, to the shock of the north London crowd.

Toner's own goal had the Gunners chasing an equaliser for the bulk of the second half, but Khalid Abdo secured the win for the visitors with a picture-perfect counter attack.

The Hammers have languished in last place in Group 1 for most of the season and have had little reason to celebrate, making their 2-1 win over Manchester City all the more special. The club's official Twitter account joined in on the action:

The loss means City now chase rivals and league-leaders Manchester United by five points with a match in hand, setting up a tight race for this year's Group 1 title.

Tuesday Recap

Chelsea succeeded in reducing the gap separating them from the summit of the Under-21 Development League on Thursday thanks to a 3-0 victory over their Everton counterparts.

Captain Jordan Houghton put the west Londoners ahead in Aldershot, per Chelsea's official Twitter account, heading in a cross that came courtesy of first-team prospect Andreas Christensen:

And like the senior side of late, Chelsea's under-21s struggled to build on that lead, but second-half substitute Tammy Abraham was on hand to notch a second and ease Adi Viveash's nerves.

Thursday's strike was the forward's 37th of the season and it was Jeremie Boga who was again pulling the strings behind Chelsea's attacking manoeuvre:

Abraham wouldn't stop there, though, and struck again in extra time to demonstrate the kind of clinical form he's enjoyed all season long and calmly rounding Everton's defence to punish their defensive error.

Chelsea TV's Lee Parker confirmed Abraham set his targets high at season's start, but perhaps this is more than even he was expecting:

The win sees Chelsea move up to seventh in the table, joint on points with Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton, needing only to win both their games in hand to draw level with leaders Manchester United.

Everton, meanwhile, have a game in hand of their own to utilise as they look to move outside the bottom two, but nerves are reaching a high with the end of the campaign in sight.

Monday Recap

The Manchester United squad that traveled to Leicester to take on the Foxes was arguably the most impressive we've seen in the U21 competition all season, with the likes of Robin van Persie and Adnan Januzaj receiving a spot in the starting XI.

United's official Twitter account shared the full list of stars from the senior side who would feature on Monday:

Despite all those stars gracing the pitch, the in-form hosts took an early lead. Harry Panayiotou converted an excellent chance from close range, and Jak McCourt came close to doubling Leicester's advantage with a superb volley.

Van Persie in particular failed to impress against the inexperienced Foxes defence, coming close to a goal on just one occasion. Sean Goss eventually managed the equaliser before half-time.

Rafael left the pitch for United with what appeared to be a rib injury, and both Januzaj and Van Persie lasted only minutes in the second half. James Wilson came close to winning it for United in injury time, but as shared by the Foxes' Twitter account, stopper Adam Smith simply wouldn't be passed a second time:

Januzaj also left the pitch with an injury to his ankle.

McCourt, who scored Leicester's only goal, was happy with the team's performance:

Norwich City could have moved top of the table if they had beaten Everton, but Tyias Browning managed a late equaliser to give the Toffees a point after the Canaries had dominated throughout the match.

The club instead moves into second place ahead of Liverpool, who still hold two matches in hand.

Deyan Iliev's early dismissal and the resulting penalty goal forced Arsenal to chase Middlesbrough around the pitch for most of their clash, via the club's Twitter account, and the hosts managed to pull out a 3-2 win:

Gedion Zelalem was the lone bright spot for the Gunners with his incisive passing and dribbling, providing assists for both goals. The youngster is seen as one of the most exciting talents in Arsenal's youth setup and certainly lived up to his reputation on Monday.

So did Daniel Crowley, who scored once and was dangerous throughout the match.

United remain the leaders and favourites for the title in Group 1, currently holding a one-point lead over Norwich with two matches in hand.
