Match Preview
It is well known that City and Chelsea are the oil clubs of English football, but both teams are making waves in the youth scene as they look to build depth and longevity.
City have gone a long way to fight against the tag of simply being a cash-rich team and have developed a new academy to further their stock of bright, young players.
The Sky Blues were convincing on their way to the final after defeating Leicester City in impressive style, winning their semi-final 5-1 on aggregate.
Brandon Barker was in sensational form for City, scoring and providing an assist, as they booked their place to play Mourinho's kids.
And Simon Bajkowski of The Manchester Evening News sees the London team as the team to beat, despite City's excellent form in 2014-15:
"Their reward is a two-legged final against Chelsea. Last year’s winners, the London club will go in as favourites. But they had to come from three goals down to defeat Spurs in their semi-final, and City have been more than a match for their opponents in the competition this season.
"
Chelsea have a plethora of talent and cruised through the early rounds with impossible ease, winning 6-1 against Huddersfield Town and 6-0 against Swansea City.
The two results showed how far Chelsea are ahead of the chasing pack this term, and the Blues have continued in a focused mood.
They seemed to have finally come unstuck against Tottenham Hotspur, trailing by three goals in the second leg of their semi-final, but a dramatic five-goal blitz saw Chelsea move through the gears and progress to the final.
However, City's Cameron Humphreys believes his team are ready to topple their southern foes, as reported by Bajkowski in a separate report for The Manchester Evening News:
"We're all very confident. We know it's going to be a hard game because we know how good Chelsea are, but we could beat them and that's our aim."
Chelsea's depth is unrivalled at the Under-18 level, and they are rightfully the favourites to take the final and win the famous youth trophy.
However, City have made unbelievable strides in their youth development in recent times, and if they can take a strong lead into the second leg, they can walk away with the silverware.
