USA vs. Mexico: Score and Twitter Reaction from 2015 Friendly
The USA men's national soccer team got a necessary strong outing in Wednesday's 2-0 victory over Mexico in a friendly match at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
Jordan Morris scored what wound up being the winning goal in the 49th minute, and New England Revolution striker Juan Agudelo added insurance in the 72nd minute to lead the winning American attack.

ESPN's Paul Carr highlighted how the USA has had the upper hand against their adversary to the south of late:
Rob Stone of Fox Sports added more context to the win:
This was a mere exhibition fixture in the rivalry between the two sides, but it has to be a morale boost for the U.S. to get the upper hand in the latest match. Wednesday's win marked just the third in the past 10 friendlies in which the Americans have engaged (h/t Goal.com's Michael Huguenin).
USA head coach Jurgen Klinsmann spoke before the match about its significance, considering what's on the horizon, per MLSSoccer.com's Alicia Rodriguez:
"This game doesn't really help you to zoom in, because you are restricted to the players you have just now. But it is a great opportunity for everyone [individually] to show where they are right now, where they are at this stage with MLS teams, down in Mexico, and just show us at what stage you are. And then obviously the closer we get to the Gold Cup the more we kind of define things.
"
Morris made the most of his chance and will no doubt carry some confidence forward. The current Stanford sophomore star was making his national team debut and did so in style.
Sports Illustrated's Richard Deitsch relayed the footage of Morris' goal as he slipped past El Tri's defense and slid it home not long after the halftime intermission:
As U.S. Soccer pointed out, it was Agudelo who substituted in for Morris after the youngster found the back of the net:
Then Agudelo didn't waste much time getting on the board himself—a key development for another talented player on the American side.
ESPN's Taylor Twellman believes Agudelo has the intangibles to be special:
Michael Bradley had a role in setting up both goals, so it's nice to see the veteran taking charge and showing leadership when it'd be easy to mail it in.
Former USA soccer star Landon Donovan praised the defensive effort, which allowed goalkeeper Nick Rimando to maintain a clean sheet:
"US backline excellent, MEX awful and poor goalkeeping, Bradley different class, happy 4 @jmosmooth13 & @juanagudelo Sad for @kylebeckerman
— Landon Donovan (@landondonovan) April 16, 2015"
As Klinsmann hinted in his pre-game comments, he's still evaluating any and all options to solidify what his best team will look like down the road. Even in a friendly, Mexico is a respected opponent, and the close proximity to El Tri's country saw the San Antonio crowd favoring the visiting nation in Wednesday's match.
After a lackluster opening half in which it appeared the underwhelming depth of USA soccer talent might be exposed, the whole team stepped up and salvaged a victory.
The next friendly on tap for the United States is against the Netherlands on June 5. No matter who the Dutch trot out onto the pitch, they're sure to provide the USA with a formidable test.
El Tri will seek to bounce back from Wednesday's loss with a better performance in their next international exhibition fixture. They ought to be able to on May 30 in taking on Senegal.
