West Ham Approach Reportedly Rejected

Tuesday, April 21

Darren Lewis of the Daily Mirror reports West Ham United were among the first teams to approach Klopp for his services, but were promptly rejected as he eyes a team who will compete in Europe next season:

"

Klopp, who quit Borussia Dortmund last week, is understood to have been approached by the Hammers shortly afterwards.

The two-time German title winner and Champions League finalist, however, made it clear that he wants to wait for an opportunity at a European club.

Klopp Harbours Manchester United 'Dream'

Monday, April 20

Manchester City Reportedly Not Keen on Klopp

Wednesday, April 15

According to Jamie Jackson of the Guardian, Manchester City won't be chasing Klopp no matter what happens with Manuel Pellegrini at the end of the season:

"

Manchester City do not consider Jurgen Klopp a candidate to take over should Manuel Pellegrini be removed, despite the German having announced on Wednesday he will leave Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season.

Klopp is to end a seven-year spell in charge of the Bundesliga club when the campaign closes, the 47-year-old stating at an emotional press conference he 'no longer feels he is the perfect coach for the club.'

"

That could be a vote of confidence in Pellegrini, who did lead Manchester City to a Premier League title a year ago but has come under fire this season, especially of late, as the Citizens have lost six of their last eight contests.

Per Jackson, Napoli’s Rafael Benitez is also not considered an option to potentially replace Pellegrini, with Bayern Munich’s Pep Guardiola still atop the club's wish list. Jackson also noted that Arsenal remain steadfastly in support of Arsene Wenger and will not pursue Klopp.

Bleacher Report's Matteo Bonetti has more on where Klopp might land:

It's certainly been a trying year for Klopp and Borussia Dortmund, as the club sits a disappointing ninth on the Bundesliga table and were eliminated in the Champions League round of 16 by Juventus.

And while Klopp maintained in his press conference that the team's struggles weren't the reason for his departure, it's also possible he saw top stars such as Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski depart in recent years without being properly replaced and realized he could no longer grow at Dortmund. Perhaps he saw this as the perfect opportunity to make himself available for a club with more resources.

Whatever the case may be, his name will be the biggest one on the market this summer, and despite recent reports, it would be shocking if Man City moved on from Pellegrini after the summer and didn't aggresively pursue Klopp.

They may be supporting Pellegrini for the moment, a wise choice with a Champions League berth hanging in the balance, but if he's run his course in Manchester, Klopp is the logical replacement.
