UEFA Youth League Final 2015: Shakhtar Donetsk vs. Chelsea Score and Highlights

Rory MarsdenApr 13, 2015

Chelsea became the second champions of the UEFA Youth League as they beat Shakhtar Donetsk 3-2 in 2015's final on Monday at the Colovray Stadium in Nyon, Switzerland.

Forward Isaiah Brown scored a double, while striker Dominic Solanke—the tournament's top scorer—was also on the scoresheet for Chelsea.

Having conceded early to Brown, Shakhtar forced an equaliser through an Andreas Christensen own goal, and the teams went in level at half-time.

But on resumption after the break, the Blues completely dominated, adding a second through Solanke before Brown put the game out of sight.

A very late Viktor Kovalenko strike could serve only as consolation for Shakhtar.

Shakhtar came into Monday's final undefeated throughout the competition, while Chelsea's only defeat on their way to the final was a group-stage loss away to Schalke.

UEFA's Ben Gladwell provided the full lineups ahead of kick-off:

Chelsea took the lead after just seven minutes as skipper Brown turned in from close range after fine work down the left from Solanke.

It handed the Blues the initiative, but Shakthar did well to play their way back into the match, and the Ukrainian outfit dominated possession for much of the first half.

While Solanke almost made it 2-0 late in the first half, the ball was in the net at the other end in the 37th minute, as Christensen turned into his own net, with forward Denys Arendaruk having crossed into the box after a fast counter-attack.

A high-quality opening period finished 1-1, but the Blues immediately took the lead again in the second half, with Solanke scoring yet another goal in the tournament as he headed in a fine Jeremie Boga cross in the 47th minute, per B/R UK's Sam Tighe:

Boga was provider again as Brown made it 3-1 in the 55th minute, with the captain receiving the ball on the right corner of the penalty area and firing home a left-footed strike.

It was something of a procession for Chelsea from that point on as they kept the ball well, although forward Oleksandr Zubkov squandered a fine chance to put the pressure back on the Blues in the latter stages.

Second-half substitute Kovalenko added some threat when he came on in the 71st minute, suggesting he potentially should not have been left on the bench for so long.

He added a consolation in just about the last play of the game, firing home a fine finish after Zubkov's terrific ball over the top of the Blues defence, but it was too little too late.

Chelsea coach Adi Viveash summed things up well after his side's triumph, per Chelsea's official Twitter account:

Chelsea were deserved winners in the end, with their second-half performance particularly impressive as they managed to kill the game, and they eventually cruised to victory.

Certainly some of the Blues' top performers could advance to the first team, with plenty of the stars of the future performing well in Nyon's final.
