Kompany Available vs. QPR
Friday, May 8
Manchester City confirmed that Kompany will return to the lineup vs. QPR on Sunday. The news comes as a positive as opposed to April 24 comments from Pellegrini, who allayed fears that Kompany's season was over.
On April 12, The Sun (subscription required) confirmed that Kompany was subbed off at half-time of the derby, with Eliaquim Mangala replacing him. The centre-back had just made his return to fitness in the contest, which is sure to frustrate the player and club.
Like numerous other Manchester City stars, Kompany has failed to produce his finest football in recent months as manager Pellegrini's men slipped out of the title race.
Despite his slump, however, the Belgium international has stayed resolute. When asked by The Telegraph's Jason Burt about how he deals with criticism, he responded:
"It’s very simple. I always take myself a little bit out of the equation in the sense that when we do win titles I try to make sure I don’t think it’s all because of me. When we do have bad performances I know it’s not all because of me.
Because I have been through everything. You know, the season when I got Barclays Premier League Player of the Year [2011-12], at the start of the season they were saying ‘the weakest part of the City team is the defence.
"
Kompany's presence at the back of City's lineup will be a positive boost for the squad at this point in the Premier League season.
