Javier Hernandez Completes Transfer to Bayer Leverkusen from Manchester United

Matt JonesApr 6, 2015

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has secured a permanent transfer to Bayer Leverkusen. The Red Devils confirmed the move via their Twitter account on Monday.

Kicker originally reported the news of Hernandez's move to Germany, (h/t Charles Perrin of the Express). The German news outlet claimed Hernandez will set Leverkusen back £12 million.

West Ham were previously among the Mexican's potential suitors but pulled out of a deal after Hernandez "demanded a 'ludicrous' contract, including a bonus of £90,000 per goal," revealed Darren Lewis of the Mirror.

Italian side Torino had considered a season-long loan move for Hernandez, per an Aug. 12 report from Adrian Kajumba of the Mirror. They sold Matteo Darmian to United earlier in the summer, potentially opening channels for a Hernandez coup, but Leverkusen can offer Champions League football.

Univision claimed on Aug. 6 the striker had an MLS offer on the table of $10 million annually, via Jonathan Tannenwald of Philly.com. Orlando City were named as the interested party, per Fox Sports.

The signing of Hernandez could be a major coup for Leverkusen, with there being a sense the striker still has something to offer in Europe.

After all, the forward is only 27 years old, and despite having a tough time at Real, players of his ilk rarely lose those goalscoring instincts.
