B/R Experts Predict Top Matches in World Football for Weekend of April 11-12

Ian RodgersApr 9, 2015

This weekend presents some intriguing matches for our experts to contemplate.

Sunday's Manchester derby offers in-form United the chance to put one over on neighbours City at Old Trafford.

Arsenal will be looking for an eighth successive Premier League win on Saturday when they travel to Burnley, who are fighting relegation.

Silverware will be up for grabs in France on Saturday as Paris Saint-Germain and Bastia contest the Coupe de la Ligue at the Stade de France.

Barcelona face a test of their title credentials with a trip to fifth-placed Sevilla on Saturday, while their is also a top-of-the-table clash in Major League Soccer between D.C. United and New York Red Bulls this weekend.

Do you agree with our experts' predictions for this weekend? Let us know in the comments section below.

Burnley vs. Arsenal

1 of 6

Alex Livie: Burnley 0-2 Arsenal

First goalscorer: Olivier Giroud

Burnley are scrapping for their lives, but Arsenal are flying at the moment and will prove too good.

Karl Matchett: Burnley 1-2 Arsenal

First goalscorer: Olivier Giroud

Arsenal’s good form sees them as the current best bet for second place in the Premier League, and they have a history of beating lower sides.

Sam Tighe: Burnley 0-2 Arsenal

First goalscorer: Olivier Giroud

Burnley will fight valiantly, and some will fancy them against another big side, but Arsenal get it done.

Will Tidey: Burnley 1-3 Arsenal

First goalscorer: Olivier Giroud

Arsenal's march continues with a comprehensive win in this one.

Mike Cummings: Burnley 1-3 Arsenal

First goalscorer: Alexis Sanchez

Arsenal would be top of the table if the Premier League had started with the new year. Burnley might be in the title race if moral victories counted for three points. Follow the form book and back Arsenal in this one.

Alex Dimond: Burnley 0-2 Arsenal

First goalscorer: Alexis Sanchez

Burnley are in great form and full of confidence—but so too are Arsenal, and they have the greater quality. A narrow victory.

Sevilla vs. Barcelona

2 of 6

Alex Livie: Sevilla 1-1 Barcelona

First goalscorer: Carlos Bacca

Barcelona's title push will be dealt a blow as Sevilla valiantly claim a point.

Karl Matchett: Sevilla 1-2 Barcelona

First goalscorer: Luis Suarez

Sevilla are one of the most in-form sides in La Liga, but every win is crucial now for Barca, who are chasing a treble.

Sam Tighe: Sevilla 0-1 Barcelona

First goalscorer: Lionel Messi

It's never easy playing an Unai Emery side and Sevilla have won four in a row, but Messi and Barca will break the streak.

Will Tidey: Sevilla 0-3 Barcelona

First goalscorer: Neymar

Barca to ease to victory with a couple of late goals to seal it in this one.

Mike Cummings: Sevilla 1-2 Barcelona

First goalscorer: Lionel Messi

Potentially tricky trip for the league leaders with Sevilla currently in good form. However, Barca are in even better form, and I'm expecting their run to continue.

Alex Dimond: Sevilla 1-3 Barcelona

First goalscorer: Lionel Messi

A tough, tough test for the visitors—a real measure of their title credentials heading into the final part of the campaign.

D.C. United vs. New York Red Bulls

3 of 6

Alex Livie: D.C. United 1-2 New York Red Bulls

First goalscorer: Lloyd Sam

A top-of-the-table clash that will see the Red Bulls keep their unbeaten record intact.

Karl Matchett: D.C. United 1-0 New York Red Bulls

First goalscorer: Chris Pontius

D.C.’s home form will be key to maintaining a high place in the Eastern Conference this term, though they won’t finish top.

Sam Tighe: D.C. United 1-1 New York Red Bulls

First goalscorer: Jairo Arrieta

D.C. United stave off NYRB's early attempt to usurp them in the Eastern Conference.

Will Tidey: D.C. United 2-0 New York Red Bulls

First goalscorer: Fabian Espindola

D.C. to win this battle of the East Coast giants in MLS.

Mike Cummings: D.C. United 2-1 New York Red Bulls

First goalscorer: Bradley Wright-Phillips

New York blanked D.C. 2-0 in March, so United will be looking for revenge.

Alex Dimond: D.C. United 1-1 New York Red Bulls

First goalscorer: Bradley Wright-Phillips

A big early game in the MLS season. Both sides might be happy to share the spoils.

Manchester United vs. Manchester City

4 of 6

Alex Livie: Manchester United 0-2 Manchester City

First goalscorer: Sergio Aguero

City's title hopes have gone up in smoke in recent weeks, but they will bounce back with a win in the Manchester derby.

Karl Matchett: Manchester United 3-1 Manchester City

First goalscorer: Wayne Rooney

United are more in form, arguably still have more to prove and will batter City into submission.

Sam Tighe: Manchester United 2-0 Manchester City

First goalscorer: Wayne Rooney

Nothing says seismic shift in momentum like comprehensively beating the rival that won the title last year.

Will Tidey: Manchester United 1-1 Manchester City

First goalscorer: Juan Mata

United are the form side in this one, but I expect City to take at least a point at Old Trafford.

Mike Cummings: Manchester United 2-1 Manchester City

First goalscorer: Wayne Rooney

City will be up for it after losing last time out, but United are the form team here, and they never lack motivation to put one over on the noisy neighbours.

Alex Dimond: Manchester United 2-2 Manchester City

First goalscorer: Wayne Rooney

United will fancy their chances of wresting back Manchester supremacy with a win in this one, although City will perhaps take a draw after their recent struggles.

Bastia vs. Paris Saint-Germain

5 of 6

Alex Livie: Bastia 1-2 Paris Saint-Germain

First goalscorer: Edinson Cavani

PSG are pushing for honours, and they can scoop up the Coupe de la Ligue with a win over Bastia.

Karl Matchett: Bastia 1-2 Paris Saint-Germain

First goalscorer: Edinson Cavani

No reason to think that PSG will slip up here as they chase a domestic double.

Sam Tighe: Bastia 1-2 Paris Saint-Germain

First goalscorer: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

PSG's injuries won't cripple them in this game, but they won't keep Bastia entirely at bay. Another trophy for Laurent Blanc.

Will Tidey: Bastia 1-3 Paris Saint-Germain

First goalscorer: Edinson Cavani

PSG all the way in this one, with Zlatan and Cavani all too predictably doing the damage.

Mike Cummings: Bastia 1-2 Paris Saint-Germain

First goalscorer: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan recently netted his 100th goal for PSG, and he'll lead them to another piece of silverware in the Coupe de la Ligue final.

Alex Dimond: Bastia 1-3 Paris Saint-Germain

First goalscorer: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

They've done well to get this far, but surely Bastia will be unable to hold off the might of PSG—who will add another trophy to their collection.
