On Tuesday, England's Twitter account confirmed his place in the lineup:
The 21-year-old striker is enjoying an incredible breakout campaign in the Premier League, having scored 19 goals already, via WhoScored.com. Most expected he would start last week's Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania, but Hodgson decided to keep him on the bench.
He earned his first cap when he came on as a substitute in the second half and scored his first international goal within two minutes, as England trounced the Lithuanians 4-0. Per Hodgson, the youngster has earned his first start, via the team's official Twitter account:
It was later revealed that England would go with the following formation, per The Guardian's Dominic Fifield:
"Harry Kane will make his first start for England when they face Italy and alongside Theo Walcott as the manager, Roy Hodgson, reverts to a midfield diamond that will be tipped by Wayne Rooney and anchored by Phil Jones.
"
Tuesday's match in Turin is an important one. While it's only a friendly, England have suffered heartbreak at the hands of the Italians in back-to-back tournaments. The Azzurri knocked them out of Euro 2012 before beating them again at last year's World Cup.
Under manager Antonio Conte, Italy are once again a solid defensive team, although they were far from their best in their 2-2 draw in Bulgaria. A star-studded back four featuring the likes of Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci awaits Kane for his first start, per Eurosport.com:
As one might expect, social media went bananas when it was announced Kane would start, even if the news hardly came as a shock. No English player is more popular than the Spurs man right now, and Twitter's own Lewis Wiltshire wonders what's next for the 21-year-old:
Meanwhile, the London Evening Standard's Amar Singh is already preparing some headlines:
Anticipation is high for Kane's full debut, and he'll have the chance to make quite the impression against one of the best defensive sides in football.
Looking at his current form, it would hardly be a shock if he came away with a fantastic performance, although Italy will have other plans. Either way, it will be a great experience for the talented striker.
