Analyzing Asik's Value to Pelicans
Asik is often overshadowed by Anthony Davis in the New Orleans frontcourt, but the Pels can't afford to lose him to injury again as they look to return to the playoffs.
Asik averaged 7.3 points and 9.8 rebounds in 26.1 minutes per game last year and is a double-double threat every time he steps on the floor. He is not far removed from the 2012-13 season when he posted 10.1 points and 11.7 rebounds a night on the Houston Rockets and is a productive center when given enough playing time.
Davis is one of the best players in the league and creates mismatch problems for any opponent when he lines up down low because he can get out in transition, beat defenders off the dribble and hit from mid-range.
The Pelicans need Asik to remain on the court and healthy if they hope to challenge in the postseason in a daunting Western Conference.
