Sunday Recap

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard was sent off after just 38 seconds after coming on as a half-time substitute as Manchester United picked up a vital 2-1 win in Sunday's marquee match on Merseyside.
Gerrard was dismissed for an obvious stamp on Ander Herrera in the opening seconds of the second half, having replaced Adam Lallana, and the former England captain apologised for his actions after the game, per Sky Sports Football:
United dominated proceedings in the first half and took the lead in the 14th minute through Juan Mata, the Spaniard finishing well having been played through by Herrera.
Following Gerrard's red card, Mata then doubled the Red Devils' lead just before the hour with a spectacular scissor kick set up by Angel di Maria's dinked ball, per AFP's Tom Williams:
United seemed to lose their composure despite playing against 10 men, and Liverpool pulled one back through Daniel Sturridge with more than 20 minutes remaining, the Englishman beating David de Gea at the near post.
Wayne Rooney had the opportunity to put the game to bed in stoppage time but had his spot kick saved after Daley Blind was fouled by Emre Can in the area.
United were able to see out the win—though the game ended in ill-tempered fashion after Martin Skrtel appeared to stamp on de Gea, per ESPN FC's James Dall—and Louis van Gaal's fourth-placed side now sit five points clear of Liverpool in the league table:
The Red Devils sit eight points behind first-placed Chelsea, the Blues having overcome a Hull City fightback to win 3-2 on Sunday.
Jose Mourinho's men looked to have the game sewn up in the first 10 minutes as Eden Hazard and Diego Costa both found the back of the net at the KC Stadium.
Hazard's was a long-range finish effortlessly struck, while Costa finished well after being played through by Cesc Fabregas to put Chelsea 2-0 up in the ninth minute.

But Steve Bruce's Tigers came storming back, scoring twice inside three minutes just before the half-hour mark.
Andrew Robertson's terrific cross from the left was turned home by Ahmed Elmohamady, before Thibaut Courtois gifted Abel Hernandez the ball as he attempted to play out of his box, and the Uruguayan fired home to level the score at 2-2.
Chelsea dominated possession after the break but could have been 3-2 down 25 minutes from time had it not been for an immense triple-save from Courtois, the Belgian redeeming himself for his first-half blunder, per Simon Peach:
The Blues made their dominance pay in the 77th minute, with Loic Remy's shot squirming under a hapless Allan McGregor just two minutes after the Frenchman replaced Costa.
Chelsea saw out the victory to prevail in an entertaining game and re-established their six-point cushion at the top of the league table.
In Sunday's third encounter, Everton allayed any lingering relegation worries with a 2-1 victory over struggling QPR, who remain four points from safety.
Seamus Coleman scored the Toffees' opener at Loftus Road after 17 minutes, but QPR levelled 25 minutes from time through Eduardo Vargas' rising strike.
On-loan Aaron Lennon then put Everton in front again with 13 minutes to go as he drilled a low finish into the back of the net, and QPR were condemned to their fifth consecutive league defeat as they failed to find an equaliser.
Saturday Recap

Referee Neil Swarbrick was forced to apologise after Saturday's match between Manchester City and West Brom for sending off the wrong player after just 89 seconds. Craig Dawson committed a foul on Wilfried Bony, but Swarbrick dismissed Gareth McAuley instead, to the disbelief of the latter.
As you might imagine, hilarity ensued on social media. Paddy Power got involved:
Sky Sports shared this statement after the match, in which the official acknowledged his mistake:
Bony would later score his first goal for the Citizens, while Fernando and David Silva completed an easy afternoon for the defending champions.
It was a nice change of pace for City, who needed a positive result after last week's debacle against Burnley and their Champions League exit at the hands of Barcelona.
When asked about the Premier League title race, manager Manuel Pellegrini remained defiant, per Manchester Evening News' Stuart Brennan:
Giroud and Ospina were the heroes for Arsenal, as the France international scored twice and his team-mate in goal locked down everything defensively in the dying stages of their 2-1 win over Newcastle United.
Moussa Sissoko had restored some hope for the hosts, but Ospina had a phenomenal outing and simply couldn't be beaten late.
ESPN FC were impressed with one particular sequence:
The gap between Arsenal and Chelsea is now just four points, but the Blues still have two matches in hand.
Harry Kane did it all for Tottenham Hotspur against Leicester City, bagging a hat-trick in Spurs' 4-3 win. Jeffrey Schlupp added an own goal that ultimately toppled the Foxes, who put together a brave battle against the favoured hosts.
The soon-to-be England international continues to impress former Spur Gary Lineker, and with England playing France in the Six Nations tournament on Saturday, he had to make this joke:
Aston Villa fell to Swansea City 1-0 at home, while Dick Advocaat's debut on the Sunderland bench ended in the same score, a loss against West Ham United. Southampton continued their strong run with a 2-0 win over Burnley, and Crystal Palace beat Stoke City 2-1.
All eyes will be on Anfield on Sunday, as Liverpool host eternal rivals Manchester United. Earlier in the day, Chelsea will look to fend off the challenge from City and Arsenal with a win over Hull City.
