Liga MX: Winners and Losers from Matchday 10

Karla Villegas GamaMar 15, 2015

Matchday 10 of the 2015 Clausura MX is over, and Tijuana are still leading the Liga MX general table.

Xolos continue to show they are the best side of the season with four wins in their past five games. Dayro Moreno is a thriving force for the squad, not only by scoring but also by making assists.

The relegation race continues to heat up, especially since Guadalajara and Universidad de Guadalajara won their games, leaving Puebla in a lot of trouble.

Cruz Azul can't leave behind the vibe they've been in the past month; they let slip another chance to secure three points, this time against Leon.

America and Toluca rescued last-minute victories in their respective grounds to avoid shameful results.

Let's take a look at this weekend's winners and losers.

Winners: Universidad De Guadalajara

1 of 6

Universidad de Guadalajara are doing what they haven't done since they were promoted to the Liga MX.

They have won three successive games, including this week's against Morelia.

Fidel Martinez scored the away club's goal with a powerful header. So far, he has netted five goals out of the seven that Leones Negros have on their count.

Monarcas couldn't take advantage of playing on home soil, and despite pushing hard to draw the game, their efforts came up short.

This result has helped Universidad de Guadalajara leave the bottom of the relegation table; they are now third from last, and if they keep things going, they might stay in the first division.

Losers: Puebla

2 of 6

Puebla had a key match this weekend and blew it.

La Franja hosted Guadalajara, one of the four teams that are fighting to avoid relegation. However, Jose Cruz's side couldn't stop Chivas and lost 1-2 at Estadio Universitario.

Luis Gabriel Rey scored in the first half through a penalty kick. His side kept the advantage until the 72nd minute, when an inspired Erick Torres notched a brace to leave Puebla with three vital points.

The home team is now at the bottom of the relegation table.

Winners: UNAM

3 of 6

Apparently, Guillermo Vazquez is finally getting the results he expected from UNAM.

The coach secured his second successive win, this weekend against Chiapas. It was the club's first victory outside their home turf this season.

Pumas had only grabbed one point when playing away—against Leones Negros—and had lost three games—versus Guadalajara, Tijuana and Tigres.

In Matchday 10 they faced Jaguares, who hadn't lost at Estadio Victor Manuel Reyna since March 2014 (18 games).

This result helped UNAM gain two spots in the general table; they sit 15th now.

Losers: Cruz Azul

4 of 6

Things are getting worst for Cruz Azul by the minute. La Maquina haven't won since Matchday 6.

This weekend they faced Leon at Estadio Nou Camp and showed their mental state is not at its best.

Cruz Azul started out winning the match. They actually had a two-goal advantage after 20 minutes, but the home club was about to come back in style.

La Fiera shortened the distance after Martin Bravo left the defenders behind to surprise Jesus Corona.

In the second half, Luis Montes sent a powerful long-distance shot from outside the box to tie the score. It was also his first goal since he returned to play after the fracture he suffered prior to the 2014 World Cup.

After being the tournament leader in Weeks 5 and 6, La Maquina sit sixth.

Winners: Tijuana

5 of 6

Tijuana are still in control of the tournament's general table.

Xolos have 23 points with a 7-2-1 record, four clear from Veracruz, whom they defeated on Matchday 10 at Estadio Caliente.

It was one of the most expected games of the week because Tijuana hadn't lost since the inaugural week, while Tiburones Rojos was the only unbeaten side of the 2015 Clausura.

After 45 minutes, both sides had scored once, and although they kept grinding, Xolos took the three points thanks to goals from Juan Arango and Gabriel Hauche in the second half.

Losers: Queretaro

6 of 6

Queretaro held off Toluca's continued attack, but they couldn't keep it going.

Gallos Blancos lost the battle in the 92nd minute after Marco Bueno sent a powerful header to the back of the net. He had tried constantly to surprise Tiago Volpi and finally achieved it.

This is Queretaro's sixth defeat of the season and second since Victor Manuel Vucetich took over the team in Matchday 8.

Gallos Blancos are now the penultimate team in the general table of the 2015 Clausura, with eight points and a 2-2-6 record.
