Chelsea vs. Southampton: Post-Match Reaction from Jose Mourinho

Gianni VerschuerenMar 15, 2015

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho took a shot at Arsenal and their excellent Premier League form of late after his team's 1-1 draw on Sunday against Southampton.

When asked whether the Gunners now present a bigger threat to their title hopes than Manchester City, he referred to Arsenal's embarrassing 3-1 loss against AS Monaco in the UEFA Champions League.

As shared by the Guardian's Daniel Taylor, the Special One didn't hold back:

Arsenal's 3-0 win over West Ham United on Saturday marked their eighth consecutive victory at the Emirates Stadiuma new recordand with City losing 1-0 to Burnley and the Blues managing only a draw on Sunday, the Gunners are closing in on the perceived title favourites.

Mourinho wasn't particularly pleased with the draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, with a penalty goal from Dusan Tadic canceling out Diego Costa's opener.

However, he seemed more than pleased with the club's current situation at the top of the standings, via the team's official Twitter feed:

The fact that Tadic equalised from the penalty spot didn't sit well with the Chelsea manager, who refused to comment in depth about the penalty decision but did offer this nugget, per the Sunday Times' Duncan Castles:

Instead, he turned his attention toward the pundits, who were very critical of Chelsea's Champions League performance against Paris Saint-Germain and haven't always been in his corner throughout the season.

Sky Sports shared footage of the juicy bits of his post-match presser:

Mourinho seems to think the pundits take themselves a little too seriously at times, per the Associated Press' Rob Harris:

He then took things a step further, via The Independent's Miguel Delaney:

Chelsea's lead at the top of the Premier League standings is now six points over City and seven over Arsenal, with the Blues still holding a match in hand.

They remain the favourites for this year's title, as they have been for most of the year.

Mourinho's shots at pundits and Arsenal will undoubtedly be heavily discussed and scrutinised in the coming days, and it might be worthwhile to keep an eye on the Sky Sports and BBC studios to see how the pundits themselves react.

The Blues have often performed best amid controversy, so with that in mind, it's not shocking to see Mourinho create another situation where his players can come together and form a cohesive unit, fighting off the outside criticism.
