Gobert Sets Record for Most Rebounds by a Grizzlies Opponent with 24
Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert grabbed 24 rebounds in Tuesday's 93-82 win over the Memphis Grizzlies, setting a new record for most boards in a game by a Grizzlies opponent, per NBA.com/Stats.
The 24 boards also represented a personal career high for the second-year French center, besting the 18 he recorded in a Jan. 18 loss to the San Antonio Spurs.
In addition to all the rebounds, Gobert finished Tuesday's game with 15 points, one assist and two turnovers over 36 minutes.
The previous record for rebounds by a Grizzlies opponent was 23, held jointly by Tyson Chandler (Feb. 2007), Dwight Howard (Nov. 2006), Elton Brand (Feb. 2002) and Patrick Ewing (Jan. 1996), per Basketball-Reference.com's Play Index.
Still only 22 years old, the 7'1" Gobert has really come into his own since fellow center Enes Kanter was shipped off to the Oklahoma City Thunder at the trade deadline.
In Utah's six games since Kanter was traded, Gobert has averaged 10.7 points, 12.8 boards, 1.2 assists, 3.3 blocks and 0.8 steals over 31.7 minutes, boosting his season-long averages to 7.3 points, 7.9 boards, 1.1 assists, 2.3 blocks and 0.7 steals over 22.9 minutes.
While Utah's guards still leave a whole lot to be desired, the last couple of weeks have shown that the team clearly has its frontcourt of the future in Gobert, Derrick Favors and Gordon Hayward.
