Premier League Table: Latest 2015 EPL Standings and Predictions for Matchday 28

Tim KeeneyMar 1, 2015

Chelsea was busy winning the Capital One Cup this weekend, but the Blues' lead at the top of the Premier League still remained the same.

With Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Manchester City Sunday, Jose Mourinho's club is still five points clear of the Citizens but now with a match in hand. At this point, it would take a fairly significant collapse for Chelsea to lose their stranglehold at the summit of the EPL table.

Still, while the drama of the title race may be slipping, there is plenty of intrigue for the final stretch of the season, as red-hot Liverpool (in the league, anyway) chases Arsenal and Manchester United for a top-four spot, while QPR, Burnley and Aston Villa battle to avoid relegation.

There shouldn't be a lot of movement on the table this week. Of the top six clubs, only Chelsea faces a top-10 opponent, and that's against West Ham, a team they beat 2-0 on Boxing Day.

The Blues have shown a propensity to sometimes drop points against inferior competition while away from home, and there could be a hangover after winning the Capital One Cup on Sunday. But ultimately, they have too much talent not to come away with three points.

Legend Thierry Henry touched on what this team is capable of:

The rest of the Premier League giants shouldn't have much difficulty keeping pace. Poor last-place Leicester City will feel the wrath of a Manchester City squad that has lost two matches in a row. Arsenal faces QPR, who have just three points in their last six fixtures. Manchester United easily handled Newcastle in their first meeting and Liverpool is at home against Burnley, who have won just once away from Turf Moor.

The Clarets have played decently as of late as they attempt to climb out of the relegation zone, but they are running into one of the hottest teams in England.

Liverpool haven't lost a Premier League match since December 14. Opta Sports provided an impressive stat on their remarkable form:

Manager Brendan Rodgers discussed the team's turnaround after Sunday's win over Manchester City, via PremierLeague.com:

"

They restricted a top team to just one shot on target and deserve all the praise they will get. The character of this team was questioned at the beginning of this season, but we were just trying to find a rhythm and balance to the team, with little time and lots of new players. It hasn't just happened; they have worked hard, and believed in how they were working.

"

The Reds are just two points behind Manchester United and three behind Arsenal. Although they aren't likely to catch either club this week, it won't be long before they crack the top four if they continue to play at this kind of level.

No matter what happens, though, it's going to be entertaining to watch it all unfold over the next two months.
