Manchester City v Barcelona

On paper, the meeting of two such clubs really whets the appetite as one of Europe's traditional superpowers meets a super-rich oil-money team.
Manchester City have so far failed to make an impact in the Champions League, but they know the scalp of Barcelona will drive them towards where they want to be.
It was only a few years ago City were fighting a different kind of battle as they attempted to climb out of the third tier of English football. However, those days seem to be gone forever as they compete on an even keel with the planet's top sides.

Club captain Vincent Kompany is the embodiment of the new Manchester City, and the defender has been in defiant mood whilst discussing the upcoming Round of 16 match.
The Belgium international believes the City dressing room is not afraid of Barcelona, per BBC Sport, and insists his side wants to pit themselves against the Blaugrana:
"We want to play against them. You don't go in at this level fearing strikers. They're a special team with special players, but there's nothing new to worry us, it's a case of having the whole team at a very high level.
"

City coach Manuel Pellegrini backed up the words of Kompany, and insists the Sky Blues will go out to attack Barca, per BBC Sport:
"From the beginning we are going to try to be aggressive and score goals. It's not a normal game because the tie lasts 180 minutes and we must try not to concede as well as try to score, because an away goal can be very important. But I'm sure we will see our team trying to play in the same way we did against Newcastle.
"
City have been a shadow of themselves when compared to the marauding beast they were last season. They seemed untouchable in the Premier League as they wrestled the title back from the red half of Manchester, but this term they have looked jaded.

Barca themselves have failed to hit their expected heights, having shockingly lost against Malaga in the Camp Nou on Saturday.
But with Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez all looking to line up on English soil, the Catalan super club will surely be ready for the Premier League champions.
And Barcelona's Uruguayan signing from Liverpool believes City have weaknesses they intend to exploit, with Suarez explaining they will target City's back line, per Sky Sports:
"In midfield and up front, but they also have weakness at the back. People may doubt them because of the run they have been on lately, but they are Manchester City. They are Premier League champions and they have top quality players all over the pitch.
I think when you play against the big teams you never know what they're doing on the pitch. They have really good players and really good quality with the ball but we are Barcelona and we know what we can do against City.
"
Barca will be happy to take a score draw back to Spain with them, as they will feel confident of outscoring the English team on home soil.
But with Sergio Aguero and David Silva present, Luis Enrique's side cannot take City's attacking prowess for granted.
They have the ability to score goals both home and away, and if Barca cannot increase their performance level from the Malaga match, they might be soundly beaten.
Arsenal v Monaco

The Gunners face Wenger's former club as they take on Monaco in the last 16 of the competition.
The principality team are way off the pace in Ligue 1, 11 points behind leaders Lyon, and mirror Arsenal's own domestic form in the Premier League table.
But Wenger's side are improving week by week, and with Mesut Ozil returning to fitness and form, the French coach has a wonderful selection problem with a host of amazing attackers now available.
This is Arsenal's 15th consecutive appearance in the Champions League Round of 16, as reported by UEFA.com, and they will certainly be favourites to win the first leg.

But the Gunners' home form against French opposition is mixed, having only won five times in 10 matches, per UEFA.
Monaco had the best defensive record of the all teams in the group stage but injury threatens to wreck their best starting XI.
Football writers Samuel Jay C and Rich Laverty both commented on this factor, which will be a huge concern ahead of Wednesday's tie:
This is a match where Arsenal will want to put on a display, and expose the gulf in class between themselves and their guests.
Wenger's team are starting to show a resilience that was not present earlier in the campaign and they are firing into life at just the right time.
Monaco will feel they can limit the Gunners' scoring in north London on Wednesday night, but with Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez in excellent form, they will do well to not be soundly beaten.
