Manchester United became the final team to qualify for the quarter-finals of the FA Cup by beating Preston North End 3-1 on Monday. The hosts put in a valiant effort and will feel aggrieved due to two controversial decisions from the official, leading to two goals.
Per SportCenter, it had been a while since we saw United, Arsenal and Liverpool all in the quarter-finals of the tournament:
Scott Laird had given the hosts a one-goal lead before controversy struck a first time. Ander Herrera equalised with a shot from range, but striker Wayne Rooney appeared to affect the goalkeeper's reaction to the shot from an offside position.
Social media went berzerk debating whether or not the goal should stand, but play continued and Marouane Fellaini made it 2-1 midway through the second half.
Rooney again found himself under the microscope after he won United a penalty with what appeared to be a clear dive. Former professional footballer Matt Le Tissier didn't want to hear any excuses:
Arsenal were never troubled during Sunday's FA Cup clash against Middlesbrough, cruising to an easy 2-0 win and a spot in the quarter-finals.
Olivier Giroud scored twice in quick succession to give the hosts a comfortable lead heading into half-time, as shared by Squawka football:
Mesut Ozil continued his fine form and the Gunners enjoyed an altogether comfortable afternoon against the Championship leaders, who look like they will certainly belong in the Premier League should they qualify next season.
Tim Sherwood had an excellent start to his career as manager of Aston Villa, guiding the hosts to a 2-1 win over Leicester City.
Fox Soccer shared the final score:
The first half in Birmingham was a drab affair of low quality, but the match exploded in the second half. Villa took control of the ball and played with an intensity that has sorely lacked in recent months, and they deservedly took the lead through Leandro Bacuna.
Scott Sinclair made it 2-0 in the dying moments of the fixture but Andrej Kramaric hit back just one minute later to set up a frantic finale. The young Croat's header was a thing of beauty, and The Independent's Joe Krishnan couldn't contain himself:
Villa held on for a much-needed and deserved win, starting the Sherwood era on a high note. Compared to the stale side we saw under Paul Lambert, the squad looked lively and engaged in the second half of Sunday's match.
As shared by WhoScored.com, their attacking intentions were very visible in the statistics:
The club shared the reaction from the two scorers via Twitter:
Bradford City continued their giant-slaying ways on Sunday, beating Sunderland 2-0 to advance to the next round. John O'Shea's own goal after just two minutes gave the hosts a dream start, and when Jonathan Stead made it 2-0 after 60 minutes, fans went berserk.
The result sees the club qualify for the quarter-finals for the first time in ages, via ESPN FC's John Brewin:
Liverpool dominated Crystal Palace but needed a big first half to finally overcome their Selhurst-Park demons, winning 2-1 thanks to goals from Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana.
The Reds were by far the better team in the first half, but as shared by Bleacher Report UK, Fraizer Campbell scored the only goal of the opening 45 minutes to give the hosts a shock lead:
"Crystal Palace 1, Liverpool 0. Liverpool have been the dominant side at Selhurst Park, but Campbell has the only goal so far.

With the memories of last season's dramatic 3-3 draw still fresh, Brendan Rodgers' men needed a big second-half performance in the worst way.
Daniel Sturridge pulled his team back on level terms early in the second half, and he celebrated his goal by doing an odd dance with Alberto Moreno. The Spaniard didn't seem to convince fans on social media, via Squawka Football:
Adam Lallana pounced on a loose ball to make it 2-1 minutes later, completing the comeback.
Palace wanted a penalty for an apparent hand-ball from Moreno, and the incident was the closest the Eagles would come to scoring again. Liverpool easily played the ball around until the final whistle, finally getting a long-overdue win at Selhurst.

Brown Ideye bagged a brace in West Bromwich Albion's 4-0 demolition of West Ham United, continuing his fine form for Tony Pulis' side.
The Hammers finished the match with 10 men after Morgan Amalfitano saw two yellow cards in quick succession, shoving Chris Brunt while he was receiving his first yellow. BBC Sport's Phil McNulty couldn't believe the substitute would lose his cool like that:
The dismissal shouldn't overshadow West Brom's fantastic performance, however. Ideye in particular shone with two goals and an all-round great outing, looking lively and engaged every time the ball came near him.
For a player who was nearly shipped off in January, it presents a stark turnaround, via the BBC's John Bennett:
Pulis was more than pleased with the result:
Geoff Cameron's straight red card doomed Stoke City against Blackburn Rovers, as the hosts scored three goals with the man advantage to beat the Premier League side 4-1.
The U.S. international hauled down Joshua King inside the box and was given his marching orders, and Rudy Gestede converted the penalty to give Rovers their first lead of the match.
King scored the other three goals, including the equaliser after Peter Crouch had given the visitors the lead. Former England international Gary Lineker couldn't help himself:
The match saw an ugly ending, as some of the away fans tangled with local law enforcement, per MailOnline Sport:
Aiyegbeni Yakubu scored the winner in Reading's 2-1 win over Derby County, his first goal in England in a long time, per Bennett:
Premier League sides Arsenal, Aston Villa, Sunderland and Leicester City will take to the pitch on Sunday, while Manchester United face Preston North End on Monday, the final fixture of the fifth round.
