QPR CEO Philip Beard Resigns: Latest Details, Comments and Reaction
Queens Park Rangers announced the resignation of Philip Beard, the club's chief executive officer, today as their midseason restructuring continues.
The Hoops posted a release on their official site confirming the board of directors had accepted Beard's decision to step down effective March 15. Chairman Tony Fernandes thanked him for his contributions over the past three-and-a-half years:
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Phil for his contribution to QPR and wish him well for the future. In the short term we will continue to liaise with Phil regarding our long-term projects, ensuring a smooth transitional period prior to making a new appointment.
I have high regard for Phil and he will always be welcome back at Loftus Road in the future.
"
Comments from Beard were also included. He thanked the club and its fans for the support in recent years. He noted, however, the recent changes led him to decide it was time to move on:
"The role of the CEO at QPR has changed in the wake of the recent senior management changes, especially on the football side of the club.
Whilst the changes have been positive, the decision-making process is evolving all the time at the club and I felt now was a sensible time to move on to other opportunities.
"
Along with adjustments to the management structure, QPR are also dealing with managerial questions following the departure of Harry Redknapp. Chris Ramsey has taken over and is expected to maintain the role at least until season's end.
The club is currently caught up in an intense Premier League relegation battle with just six points separating 12th place from 19th. The Hoops sit just outside the relegation zone, thanks to their first road victory of the season on Tuesday against Sunderland.
Whether QPR will be able to overcome all of the potential distractions and avoid relegation is a story worth watching over the next few months.
