Siem de Jong Injury: Updates on Newcastle Star's Collapsed Lung and Return
Newcastle United midfielder Siem de Jong is expected to miss two more months of action after suffering a collapsed lung. He dealt with a similar issue two years ago with Ajax.
The club's official site noted the Dutch international underwent surgery on Tuesday to correct the issue. The update also included comments from De Jong about the setback:
"After four months of hard work getting back to full fitness it is such bad luck to suffer another setback. We are all hopeful that the surgery I have had will ensure I don't have any repeat of the condition in the future.
It's very sad for me personally, especially since I was almost back in contention and feeling great. I'm sorry for my teammates, the Club and our fans that I'm not able to help the team for a little while longer. I am determined to come back stronger as soon as possible. Thank you to everyone for your support.

De Jong arrived to St James' Park in July. He only made three appearances across all competitions for the Magpies before suffering a thigh injury in September. That's kept him sidelined ever since.
Just as he was nearing his return from that ailment, he suffers the collapsed lung. It's an unfortunate turn of events for both the midfielder and the club. If he stays on track with the projected timetable, he should be back to help Newcastle for the stretch run.
