West Ham vs. Manchester United: Key Louis van Gaal Quotes from Pre-Match Presser
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal touched on several different subjects ahead of the Red Devils' clash with West Ham United on Sunday, but the biggest talking point during Friday's press conference was related to charges levied against him by the FA.
Following United's 3-0 victory over Cambridge United in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Tuesday, the Dutch manager made some remarks in reference to the officiating. That led the FA to charge him with alleging or implying bias by the officials, according to the official statement.
Per ESPNFC.com, Van Gaal discussed his team being at a disadvantage after the Cambridge United match and commented on referee Chris Foy specifically.

"Every aspect of a match is against us. We have to come here, the pitch is not so good, but that can influence also that you play in another playing style. ... Then you have seen the referee (Chris Foy). It's always the same. Everywhere I have coached these games—and I have coached them also with other clubs—it's always the same.
"
In response to the charges, Van Gaal announced his intentions to dispute them, according to Ian Ladyman of the Daily Mail:
At the same time, Van Gaal made it clear that he didn't harbor anger toward the FA for the decision, per Jamie Jackson of The Guardian:
Van Gaal even reaffirmed his comments to some degree by pointing out the perceived favoritism toward underdog clubs like Cambridge United, according to Ladyman:
In addition to the charges, Van Gaal also touched on Manchester United's ambition in both the EPL and the FA Cup moving forward.
The Red Devils are currently holding steady in third place in the EPL standings. While they are just five points behind second-place Manchester City, both Southampton and Arsenal are lurking one point behind them.
With that in mind, Van Gaal stressed the importance of a good performance against the Hammers, per Manchester United's official Twitter account:
Also, while some top clubs like United don't always put their best effort into succeeding in the FA Cup, Van Gaal expressed a great desire to win that tournament:
There is clearly plenty on Van Gaal's plate right now, but his press conference comments suggest that he is singularly focused on his team having success on the pitch.
Manchester United have certainly enjoyed a renaissance season in Van Gaal's first year at the helm, and a win over West Ham would keep the positive momentum rolling.
