Lille vs. PSG: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info, Coupe De La Ligue Preview

Andrew GibneyFeb 2, 2015

On Tuesday night, Lille and Paris Saint-Germain go into battle at the Stade Pierre Mauroy for the right to walk into the Stade de France to lift the 2015 Coupe de la Ligue trophy.

These sides have already met once this season in the league, and there was nothing between them. PSG struggled to dominate the home side, and goals from Edinson Cavani and David Rozehnal cancelled each other out in the 1-1 draw.

PSG travel north to Lille as the cup holders. It was Cavani's double that saw them beat Lyon 2-0 last season, and a victory against Lille would give them a chance at a fifth success in this competition.

Predicted Formations

Lille: (4-3-1-2) – Enyeama – Corchia, Kjaer, Rozehnal, Sidibe – Mavuba, Balmont, Delaplace – Lopes – Origi, Koubemba

PSG: (4-3-3) – Douchez – Marquinhos, Thiago Silva, David Luiz, Maxwell – Verratti, Motta, Pastore – Lucas, Cavani, Ibrahimovic

Player to Watch – Lille

The start for Marcos Lopes on Saturday away at Nantes was his first since the beginning of November. His ability to change direction, play between the lines and create chances could be crucial to Lille on Tuesday.

In front of goal, Rene Girard's side has been close to dreadful. The 18 goals they have managed in the league is the worst record in all of Ligue 1. Bottom-placed Metz has scored one more goal than Lille.

Lopes—on loan from Manchester City—has the ability to create danger in the final third. He is constantly looking for pockets of space and is able to get his head up and pick a pass. If he is back to match fitness, he could make a huge difference.

Player to Watch – PSG

This season, Lucas Moura is slowly becoming PSG's most consistent attacking option.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has not looked the same since his heel injury, and a lack of movement on Friday against Rennes was evident—similar to the lack of confidence in Cavani's finishing. He should have made it 2-0 against Rennes, but his shot into the far corner lacked conviction.

Lucas has seven goals this season, and his skill on the ball and confidence to take on his man could cause constant problems to the Lille full-backs.

Key Battle: Lille's Attack vs Thiago Silva

After facing justified criticism early in the season, PSG captain Thiago Silva is slowly getting back to his best over the last few games. Imperious against Saint-Etienne away then again on Friday, he looks like he could stop the whole Lille attack on his own.

Girard will have to decide on what strikers he picks to do battle with Silva. Nolan Roux and Kevin Koubemba played on Saturday. They put in an honest shift, ran the channels and showed effort but little else in the way of quality.

Divock Origi came on in the second half and nearly won all three points. Back to fitness, the Liverpool loanee could force his way into Tuesday's lineup.

It's not so much a question of whether Thiago Silva can stop the Lille attack; it's more about if the Lille attack find any way past Thiago Silva.

Odds

According to Oddschecker, Lille are 4-1 for the home win, PSG are rated at 10-11 for the away win, and the draw is 5-2—those bets only valid for 90 minutes. This game will go to extra time and penalties if level after the 90.

It will be hard for Lille to keep PSG at bay, but the home side has found the net in five of their last six home games. You can get both teams to score at 6-5.
