Sunday Update

Despite the absence through injury of star-man Alexis Sanchez, Arsene Wenger's Gunners thrashed a dire Villa side 5-0 at the Emirates on Sunday.
Olivier Giroud opened the scoring after eight minutes, but while the Gunners were comfortable, they could not punish the visitors further in the opening half, per The Independent's Jack Pitt-Brooke:
However, goals from Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott soon after the break wrapped things up for the home side, before Santi Cazorla's penalty and Hector Bellerin's superb side-footed strike made it a drubbing.
Ozil was starting his first league game since October and provided a wonderful flick to set up Giroud's seventh goal of the season, per the Daily Mail's Neil Ashton, a combination that will no doubt delight Wenger:
The victory was Arsenal's third on the bounce in the league—and third in succession without succeeding—and moves them up to fifth in the league, two points ahead of next weekend's opponents Tottenham.
As for Villa, they set an unwanted club record in failing to score in north London but stay 16th by virtue of the fact that all the teams below them lost as well on Saturday:
Sunday's second game saw Southampton take on Swansea City at St Mary's, the Saints looking to reclaim third spot from the Red Devils, United's win on Saturday having them one point ahead of Ronald Koeman's side.
After a cagey first 45 minutes, the Welsh outfit—looking for their first league victory since Boxing Day—took the game to the hosts in the second half, and were rewarded as Jonjo Shelvey found the opener with a fine long-range strike seven minutes from time.
Garry Monk's men had to hold on to claim victory— the brilliant Ashley Williams clearing off the line late on to deny Sadio Mane—while Ryan Bertrand was issued a straight red card in the 89th minute for a reckless challenge, per talkSPORT's Ian Abrahams:
A somewhat unexpected win moves the Swans into ninth, Saints remaining in fourth with a number of clubs closing up behind them in the race for the Champions League.
Saturday Update

Undoubtedly the highlight of Week 23 in the Premier League, leaders Chelsea took on second-placed Manchester City and held on for a 1-1 draw.
It looked to be heading for a goalless opening half before Branislav Ivanovic found Eden Hazard on the left, the Belgian firing in a splendid ball for Loic Remy to tap home in the 41st minute.
Jose Mourinho could have been forgiven for thinking his side would take their lead into half-time, but four minutes later David Silva turned home Sergio Aguero's powerful strike.
A rare Thibaut Courtois mistake saw the ball fall to Aguero on the edge of the box, the Argentinian's driven shot crucially diverted goalwards by Silva for the equaliser, per AFP's Tom Williams:
Manuel Pellegrini's men dominated the second period, as the hosts retreated deeper and deeper into their own half, but a winner was not to be found.
The Red Devils were able to avenge their embarrassing 5-3 defeat to Leicester back in September with a comfortable 3-1 victory at Old Trafford.
Van Persie bagged a splendid, if marginally offside, half-volleyed opener, before Radamel Falcao scrambled in his fourth of the season to add to his strong record as a starter, per Opta:
Wayne Rooney's whipped corner was headed into his own net by Wes Morgan to give the hosts a 3-0 lead at half-time, and although Marcin Wasilewski headed in a late consolation, it was an easy three points for Louis van Gaal's men.
Sturridge played in a league game for the first time since August, coming on as a 68th minute substitute and adding Liverpool's second after Raheem Sterling had opened the scoring for the Reds in the 51st minute.
It sees the Reds up into seventh in the league table and was a fair result at Anfield, per BBC Sport's Francis Keogh, with Brendan Rodgers' men now unbeaten in seven matches in the league:
Harry Kane's ninth and 10th goals of the season wrapped up all three points for Tottenham Hotspur against West Bromwich Albion in a 3-0 win, the Englishman adding to Christian Eriksen's brilliant early free-kick to condemn Tony Pulis to his first loss in charge of the Baggies.
Meanwhile, Everton picked up a first league win in seven matches against Crystal Palace, Romelu Lukaku's bundled second-minute opener proving the difference come the final whistle.
Toffees boss Roberto Martinez hailed a terrific win, which saw Alan Pardew condemned to his first loss in charge of Palace after winning his opening four in all competitions, per talkSPORT's Ian Abrahams:
Carver finally picked up a win in charge of Newcastle in Saturday's early kick off, Remy Cabella's 20-yard strike opening proceedings ahead of Sammy Ameobi and Yoan Gouffran's efforts.
Hull City looked very poor at the KC Stadium and seem to have a serious problem in front of goal with the Tigers lying 18th in the league, per Squawka:
Queens Park Ranger's dismal away record continued as they lost an 11th league game on the road this season, Niko Kranjcar's strike scant consolation as Stoke City prevailed 3-1 at the Britannia Stadium.
Sunderland picked up an important three points as they beat Burnley 2-0—their first league win in six—but the Clarets remain a point clear of the drop zone.
