AFCON 2015: Day 11 Scores, Results, Standings and Africa Cup of Nations Schedule

Ghana and Algeria squeaked through to the quarter-finals of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday, with Senegal and South Africa exiting the tournament following a flurry of last-gasp drama.

The Black Stars came from a goal down to score two of their own in the final 17 minutes of their clash against Bafana Bafana and win the group, while Algeria's 2-0 victory over Senegal sees them take second place, as confirmed by John Bennett of the BBC:

A climactic final day of Group C action saw the standings shift on several occasions, but Ghana's perseverance lands them a deserved spot in the last eight, with Ghana proceeding in top spot.

Senegal 0-2 Algeria

For the second time at this year's Africa Cup of Nations, Algeria booked a win by a margin of two goals to help send Senegal crashing out of the competition.

The result means that Christian Gourcuff's men are now the highest-scoring team at this year's tournament, despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Group C runners-up Ghana in their previous outing.

Riyad Mahrez took the initiative in opening the scoreline inside 11 minutes for the Desert Warriors, but it wasn't until Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Nabil Bentaleb netted a second eight minutes from time that the result looked assured.

With Ghana struggling against South Africa, it looked for a long time as though first place was Algeria's, but following their defeat to the Black Stars, it's Ghana who claim priority qualification, per ESPN's Colin Udoh:

Senegal will be bitterly disappointed not to have made more of an impression in front of the Algerian goal, especially after scoring in each of their first two Group C fixtures.

With tensions at their highest, however, the Fennecses gave a well-rounded account of their ability and strung sequences of possession together well, restraining their foes' offensive pressing in fine manner.

South Africa 1-2 Ghana

South Africa surrendered an ideal winning position on Wednesday to head out of this year's Africa Cup of Nations and finished the contest with just a point to their name.

Despite Mandla Masango's early opener in Malabo, Ephraim Mashaba's side were unable to hold out for all three points, with WhoScored.com confirming their desperate defensive record in Equatorial Guinea:

All credit goes to Ghana, though, for continuing to plug away at the opposition and ultimately emerge with the victory needed to capitalise upon Senegal's defeat and top the group.

John Boye equalised late on to revive their hopes, but it was Andre Ayew's 83rd-minute strike which sealed the result, Bennett illustrating just what an open forum the knockout stage promises to be:

The Blacks Stars were somewhat desperate to see their fixture against Bafana Bafana come to an end in the closing phases, with goalkeeper Brimah Razak booked for time-wasting as the final whistle approached.
