Rodgers recently conceded that he never expected his Liverpool side to win the Premier League this season, citing summer changes as the reason after his team lost Luis Suarez.
He did, however, say he was looking to his Reds to win a trophy in 2014-15, per The Independent, and the FA Cup must surely be a target:
"The reality for us this season was, could we finish in the top four? With so many changes we weren’t going to challenge for the league. We were looking to win a trophy and then come next summer we will be ready to challenge for the title again.
"
The Anfield outfit are multiple winners of the famous trophy, having triumphed in seven finals overall, the most recent being their 2006 victory over West Ham.
It is surely time for the Reds to win it once more, and they can take a further step by seeing off Bolton on Saturday.
Rodgers' men put in a strong showing midweek as they drew 1-1 with Chelsea in their Capital One Cup semi-final first leg, per BT Sport's Ian Darke, but there may be some fatigued squad members after a tense encounter:
However, Rodgers likely can't afford to make too many changes as Bolton present a difficult challenge, and the likes of Lucas Leiva and Jordan Henderson will be necessary to dominate the midfield.
The Reds have been buoyed by the return of Glen Johnson, Joe Allen and Mario Balotelli, all of whom could feature at Anfield, although Daniel Sturridge is still unavailable, per the club's website.
After a torrid start to the the season, Liverpool have improved of late and are unbeaten in their last nine matches in all competitions.
The Reds' creaky defence has been shored up with Rodgers playing three at the back, Emre Can, Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho all impressing in recent weeks.
If Liverpool can stay organised in defence and dominate possession, they should be able to carve out enough opportunities to send themselves through to the fifth round.
Bolton are not a straightforward proposition for the Reds, though, and Neil Lennon has produced some fine football from the Trotters after taking charge in October.
They have lost just once in their last 12 matches and boast former Premier League stars Eidur Gudjohnsen and Emile Heskey in their squad, the latter clearly eager to play against his former club, per BBC Sport:
Darren Pratley will also cause Liverpool problems; the midfielder has bagged four goals in Bolton's last six outings and contributes both in attack and defence.
The last time these two teams met was in the Premier League in 2012 and Bolton walked away with a 3-1 victory.
A repeat of that result is unlikely on Saturday, but the Reds will have to be on their game if they want to beat a Championship side who have some genuine quality in their ranks.
