Nasri Absent for Final Match of the Season
Sunday, May 24
Manchester City confirmed Nasri would not play against Southampton.
Nasri entered as a substitute in the second half vs. Spurs on May 3, and as Stuart Brennan of the Manchester Evening News noted, his contribution to the cause was limited:
Nasri was replaced by Wilfred Bony after limping off the pitch, via the club's official Twitter account..
The 27-year-old Frenchman has been one of the club's most influential players when healthy during the 2014-15 campaign, and the Citizens have clearly felt his absence when he has been unavailable.
Nasri underwent groin surgery at the start of the season, as shared by football commentator Kelechi Nkoro, and City struggled to get going early in the campaign, quickly losing ground on Chelsea that City could never quite make up:
He returned to the pitch and formed a fantastic duo with midfield partner David Silva, making up for the loss of Sergio Aguero by putting in a number of fantastic performances. But a training injury to his calf sidelined him once again in January, continuing a worrying trend for the former France international.
According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, Nasri has missed multiple fixtures in every season since leaving Arsenal for City with a variety of ailments, and this latest setback adds yet another knock to the list.
