10 Best Golazos from World Football This Weekend
Lionel Messi may have ceded the Ballon d'Or to Cristiano Ronaldo for the second consecutive year, but the diminutive Argentinean responded in the best way possible with a hat-trick at Deportivo La Coruna.
It marked his 33rd career hat-trick, according to @Messistats, and the third goal was good enough to make the weekend golazo ranking, which also includes efforts from the Premier League, Serie A, Ligue 1, the Belgian Pro League and the English Conference.
10. Bojan (Stoke) vs. Leicester
1 of 10
Leicester remained rooted to the bottom of the Premier League after suffering a 1-0 home defeat to Stoke.
The Potters took the three points thanks to Bojan, who received a pass on the edge of the area from Jonathan Waters before turning his body 360 degrees and unleashing a skilful shot past Ben Hamer.
It was the Spaniard's fourth league goal of the season.
9. Paul Pogba (Juventus) vs. Hellas Veronas
2 of 10
It seems that Paul Pogba can barely go a week without a golazo.
After bagging a stunning volley against Napoli last weekend, the Frenchman opened the scoring against Hellas Veronas after just three minutes with a wonderful 25-yard effort.
The Old Lady went on to win 4-0, demolishing a team they already beat 6-1 midweek in the Coppa Italia.
8. Waide Fairhurst (Macclesfield Town) vs. Kidderminster
3 of 10The first of two entries in this ranking from the Conference came from Macclesfield Town's 2-0 win at Kidderminster.
Three minutes after the visitors took the lead, Kidderminster's keeper played a ball down field that landed straight at the feet of Waide Fairhurst. The Macclesfield striker instinctively blasted the ball straight back, earning an impressive 50-yard goal in the process.
7. Seb Larsson (Sunderland) vs. Tottenham
4 of 10
Tottenham earned a 2-1 win over troubled Sunderland on Saturday, but the Black Cats scored the best goal of the game.
Debutant Jermain Defoe won a free-kick around 30 yards from goal, which Sebastian Larsson converted with aplomb. The Swedish midfielder showed great technique to beat a packed Spurs wall and Hugo Lloris with such a powerful dead ball.
6. Lionel Messi (Barcelona) vs. Deportivo La Coruna
5 of 10
Barcelona stayed within one point of Real Madrid's La Liga lead on Sunday with a comprehensive victory at Deportivo La Coruna. The star man was Lionel Messi, who completed a hat-trick just after the hour mark.
The Argentinean's third goal was a beautiful strike across the face of goal, threading the ball through the Depor defence after receiving a pass from Ivan Rakitic on the edge of the area.
5. Cedric Barbosa (Evian) vs. Paris Saint-Germain
6 of 10Paris Saint-Germain climbed to third place in Ligue 1 with a 4-2 win over relegation-threatened Evian, but the game didn't go to plan for the Parisians from the outset.
Evian took the lead through Cedric Barbosa, who struck a wonderful first-time volley from outside the box in the 14th minute.
4. Adam Matthews (Celtic) vs. Hamilton
7 of 10Celtic moved to within two points of Aberdeen at the top of the Scottish Premiership with a 2-0 win at Hamilton Academical on Saturday.
The opener came in the 33rd minute, when Adam Matthews squeezed a perfect shot into the top corner to beat the keeper at his near post.
3. Denis Cheryshev (Villarreal) vs. Athletic Club
8 of 10
Villarreal earned a 2-0 win over struggling Athletic Bilbao on Saturday afternoon, thanks in part to a superb goal from Denis Cheryshev.
The Russian winger, who is on loan from Real Madrid, beautifully collected a long ball from Victor Ruiz before rounding the keeper and finishing with his left foot.
2. Charlee Adams (Lincoln City) vs. Aldershot
9 of 10Charlee Adams made this golazo ranking a few weeks ago with a stunning strike, and the Lincoln City midfielder has been at it again.
Adams opened the scoring in the Imps' 3-0 win over Aldershot in the Conference on Saturday with a world-class 35-yard strike.
1. Tom De Sutter (Club Brugge) vs. Mechelen
10 of 10One of the best goals of the season so far was scored on Friday evening by Club Brugge's Tom De Sutter.
The Belgian Pro League leaders were 1-0 down to Mechelen in stoppage time when the 29-year-old striker controlled a cross with his knee, turned toward goal and fired in a sublime volley.
There are few better ways to win a last-gasp point than that.
