EPL Table: Updated Premier League Standings, Fixtures, Title Odds After Week 19
The top three teams in the Premier League all dropped vital points during Week 19 of the season, but there will have been varying degrees of happiness from those associated with Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United as they reflect on their respective results.
The aforementioned title chasers all drew their previous encounter, but while United and league leaders Chelsea will be content with their points—away at Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton respectively—City will have been mightily disappointed to have surrendered a two-goal lead at home to Burnley.
In terms of the table, it means little has changed at the top. But what about the bookmakers?

Chelsea Still the Standout Outfit

Jose Mourinho may well have been furious with Anthony Taylor’s refusal to award his team a penalty in their draw against Southampton, but the Portuguese will have been impressed with the resolve shown by his team.
Indeed, going into the new year top of the pile is a great omen for the Stamford Bridge club, per Paul Carr of ESPN:
The Blues recovered from a goal down to draw 1-1, but the manner in which the team dominated the second period was engrossing to watch, with Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard pulling the strings for the visitors. The goal never came, but credit must be given to Southampton, who put on a defensive clinic.

Fabregas arguably shaded his teammate in the man-of-the-match stakes, and as noted here by Squawka Football, the Spaniard has been an especially steadying influence on the Blues since his summer move from Barcerlona:
With the quality at his disposal, Mourinho should have enough to steer this team to glory. But it would have been very interesting indeed if City had come away with what would have been a critical three points in their match; you suspect Jose will be passing his hearty thanks on to Clarets boss Sean Dyche.
Manchester City Miss Big Chance

Burnley deserve great credit for their fightback from two goals down against the champions, but truth be told, it had a lot to do with the complacency and defensive ineptitude showcased by Manuel Pellegrini’s team.
This Chelsea team are not going to drop points often this season, and the Citizens had a wonderful opportunity to move within one point of the Premier League summit.
As noted by Ian Herbert of the Independent, the Clarets simply wanted it that little bit more:
With that in mind, the second-half display from City could prove to be a pivotal moment in the campaign. Not only will the draw dent the impetus accrued by the champions in recent weeks, but it will have handed a major boost to Chelsea.

Without any kind of recognised striker fit, there is a worry that City may not quite have that clinical edge to finish off teams that come to defend.
But with Sunderland coming to the Etihad next and Chelsea facing a tricky trip to face Tottenham, there’s potentially another excellent chance for Pellegrini’s men to make up some ground.
With that in mind, if you fancy a flutter on City, it might be worth taking the 5/2 odds offered above; if Chelsea do drop points at Spurs, then you can bet that price will shorten very quickly indeed.
Manchester United Not Quite There

The Red Devils showcased exactly why they aren’t ready for a title charge quite yet against Tottenham but, in the same breath, revealed why they are likely to challenge for very top honours again next season.
Louis van Gaal’s side drew 0-0 at White Hart Lane, with an excellent performance from Hugo Lloris and some profligacy in front of goal costing them the three points. That ruthlessness away from home is something that United haven’t quite found as of yet, but City—for the most part—and Chelsea currently boast it in abundance.
It’s something that Bleacher Report’s Rob B. noted in the aftermath of the match:
There are undeniably positive signs from this team, though. Wayne Rooney is flourishing as an orthodox central midfielder, Juan Mata is slowly but surely reaching the levels he accrued at Chelsea, while Ashley Young looks as though he was born to play as a left wing-back.
With time this team will only get better, but at 20/1, United aren’t worth a punt for the title quite yet.
