Battle of the In-Form Teams

LEICESTER, ENGLAND - DECEMBER 26: Hugo Lloris of Spurs celebrates with team-mates Kyle Walker and Nabil Bentaleb of Spurs after the Barclays Premier League match between Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur at The King Power Stadium on December 26, 2014

Two months ago, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United were two of the most mocked teams around the Premier League, with rivalling fans gladly pointing out both were performing well below the expectations.

Fast-forward to Week 19 and the Red Devils sit third in the standings, not having lost a match since early November. Meanwhile, Spurs have won three in a row and are quietly playing some excellent football.

United have gone from an easy target for cheap jokes to a veritable title contender, and as shared by IndySport, Michael Carrick believes that's what he and his team-mates should be aiming for:

Tottenham's resurgence may not have been as spectacular, but guided by Christian Eriksen, they've been playing solid football and have the results going their way. Paddy Power also reminded us of the recent history between these teams:

There will be nothing straightforward about this clash at White Hart Lane. On paper, the Red Devils should walk away with a comfortable win, but injuries continue to plague the squad.

According to MailOnline Sport, Maroune Fellaini's persistent troubles with an unspecified illness have now been replaced by a rib injury, and the Belgium international won't feature again until 2015:

Tottenham and United will meet in the first fixture of Week 19, and it looks like 2014's final matchday will start with a bang.

Can Saints Slay a Giant?

LONDON, ENGLAND - DECEMBER 26: Toby Alderweireld of Southampton (R) celebrates with team mates Maya Yoshida (L), Florin Gardos (2L) and James Ward-Prowse (2R) as he scores their third goal during the Barclays Premier League match between Crystal Palace a

Southampton's slide finally came to a halt with back-to-back wins over Everton and Crystal Palace, and both of those matches turned out to be fairly routine fixtures for the Saints. Unfortunately, Sunday's clash won't be.

A meeting with league leaders Chelsea couldn't possibly have come at a worse time. Just as Ronald Koeman's squad is starting to recapture some momentum, it now faces a visit from a team that has lost just one match all year and statistically has the Premier League's most productive attack and best defence.

According to MailOnline Sport, it will be a special occasion for both of the managers, as Koeman and Jose Mourinho are former colleagues:

Southampton's hot start to the season came down to the simple fact they won the matches they were supposed to win. Unlike Arsenal or Liverpool, the Saints didn't drop too many expensive points, keeping their high position in the standings.

They were also thoroughly outplayed by the handful of top teams they faced, and when the schedule took a turn for the worse, so did Southampton's results. To have a real shot at European football, that pattern needs to change.

Chelsea are arguably the best team in all of England, and upsetting the Blues would give the Saints the confidence they need going into matches against similar top clubs. It won't be easy, but to keep their strong season going, Southampton have got to start winning points in these kind of matches at some point.

Will the Real Arsenal Please Stand Up?

Last matchday, Arsenal dominated Queens Park Rangers for 52 minutes. The Gunners' dominance was visible in every facet of the game, save the scoreboard, where, somehow, QPR managed to keep the match close. And then Olivier Giroud managed to get himself red-carded and everything changed.

It's a shame because the main thing holding the Gunners back this season—apart from health—is consistency, and on Friday, the squad was doing everything possible to ensure they'd put together a dominant performance over the course of 90 minutes.

Instead, they'll go into a difficult match against in-form West Ham United without their top striker, via Match of the Day, and as many questions as they've faced all season. Yes, this is a talented team, but so are the Hammers.

Arsene Wenger's squad has been hit heavily by injuries this season, but there's no excuse for the lack of quality starter at the holding midfielder position. And on Sunday, they'll be going up against one of the biggest bargains at the position this summer—former Gunner Alex Song.

The 27-year-old knows it's going to be special going up against his old team, via 101 Great Goals:

Paired with Stewart Downing, Song shows West Ham have the talent and physicality to make life hard on Arsenal in the centre of the pitch. This is the kind of match the Gunners have to win to keep up in the race for the European slots, but getting past the Hammers won't be easy.
