Gianni VerschuerenDec 26, 2014

Louis van Gaal was in high spirits after Manchester United's Boxing Day win over Newcastle United, but despite the 3-1 scoreline, the Dutch manager didn't shy away from taking one last shot at the Premier League's heavy schedule during the holiday season.

As shared by The Guardian's Daniel Taylor, he even suggested the FA's current way of scheduling goes against FIFA and UEFA regulations:

Wayne Rooney scored twice and assisted Robin van Persie to have a hand in all of the Red Devils' goals in Friday, with the Magpies getting a consolation goal late through Papiss Cisse, via penalty.

United dominated the match from start to finish, as the fans exited Old Trafford with plenty to celebrate. Per The Sport Bible's Liam, Van Gaal still saw signs for improvement, however, as he wanted his squad to be more focused in the second half:

However, Van Gaal told the Independent that "I was very pleased because we dominated for 90 minutes."

Van Gaal made the decision to give his players the day off on Christmas, and many pundits wondered how it would impact their performance on Boxing Day. The Dutchman didn't understand what all the fuss was about, via BBC Sport's Shamoon Hafez:

Captain Rooney was all over the pitch on Friday, contributing greatly to the scoring output and bossing Newcastle around in the central areas. Per Taylor, he received some high praise from his manager:

As shared by the club's official Twitter feed, Rooney will continue playing in midfield for the foreseeable future:

Star winger Angel Di Maria didn't feature after suffering an injury just before the start of the match, and via The Telegraph's Mark Ogden, Van Gaal told reporters the issue had to do with his pelvis:

Marouane Fellaini is still ill and he was joined on the injury list by compatriot Adnan Januzaj, with Van Gaal suggesting their illness was a Belgian thing. Most reporters didn't seem to get the joke, but Ogden did:

Newcastle's Alan Pardew voiced his disapproval with the officiating after the match, as he believed his side should have received a penalty far earlier in the match, via Taylor:

He refused to pin the final result on the referee, however, as he too saw United simply outplayed his squad on Friday:

Newcastle continue to sink in the Premier League standings after an encouraging stretch of results throughout November, and the ground underneath Pardew is once again starting to heat up.

Van Gaal's United are cruising into the new year, and they will play their final match of 2014 at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
