Burnley and Liverpool will clash on Boxing Day after each dropping points to north London opponents in their most recent outings, the Clarets losing 2-1 to Tottenham last Saturday while the Reds drew 2-2 with Arsenal on Sunday.

Sean Dyche is hoping a return to Turf Moor will give his side the boost in confidence they need to defend their borders under a festive setting, Liverpool having lost 3-0 at Old Trafford in their last away trip.

Brendan Rodgers' men were the more dominant party against the Gunners, but a 97th-minute Martin Skrtel header only just sealed their point last time out and it's difficult to ascertain where hopes lie after that performance.

Turf Moor Presents Reds With Daunting Destination

Burnley's rise from relegation favourites to survival contenders of late has been largely due to the team's improvement at Turf Moor, with 10 of their 15 points coming in front of a home audience.

Eleven of their total points haul have come in November and December alone, and Dyche's team are now unbeaten in their last four games at Turf Moor, providing Liverpool with a difficult task in cracking the code.

The Clarets were always going to be considered underdogs this term, but their ability to limit opposition weapons and force sides into frustration has been a key component in their improvement.

BBC Sport's Jacqui Oatley noted in their 2-1 loss to Spurs that Dyche had created a strong foundation around the British feel among his squad:

Rodgers' side haven't struggled to create chances. Against Arsenal, Liverpool were by far the more constructive team, but again it was their absence of a finishing asset that let the Reds down.

Those opportunities may be even harder to come by at Turf Moor if Burnley are to stick with a tactic of denying the opposition first and concentrating on their own probing second.

The important thing for Rodgers is seeing to it that his visitors don't fall into a complacent mood should that be the case, taking their time and not forcing matters when chances do arise.

Of all the Liverpool players who had a mixed outing against the Gunners, Skrtel was perhaps the most extreme after courting some blame for his defending earlier in the fixture only to arise as their saviour at the death.

The Slovakian posted on Instagram (h/t Bleacher Report UK) to show off the injury that required eight staples before he played on to net the eventual equaliser:

Should Skrtel be fit to start on Friday, Danny Ings will be the most dangerous figure threatening to expose any shortcomings once again, just as he has done to the likes of Southampton, Newcastle United and Stoke City of late.

It's no surprise that Ings' recent return of three goals and two assists in his last six games has made him a January transfer target for some teams. However, Dyche has been swift to ward suitors off his star, per Match of the Day's official Twitter account:

The 22-year-old striker will seek to lead Burnley against "bigger" opposition once again and stands out as their most likely source of a goal threat, Skrtel still presenting a potential weakness worth exploiting.
