Aston Villa vs. Manchester United: Louis Van Gaal and Paul Lambert Reaction
Disappointment reigned after Manchester United's 1-1 draw against Aston Villa, with both managers telling reporters their respective teams could have gotten more out of the match.
United's Louis van Gaal even went as far as to suggest matches like Saturday's are the reason his club aren't really part of the Premier League's title race, as shared bythe Manchester Evening News' Rob Dawson:

The Red Devils came out flat in the first half and were stunned when Christian Benteke opened the score with a fantastic effort. Radamel Falcao returned to the starting XI and tied things up in the second half, but United couldn't find the breakthrough after that.
Things should have gotten easier when Gabriel Agbonlahor saw the red card after what appeared to be a 50-50 challenge on Ashley Young, and after the match, Villa manager Paul Lambert claimed the United winger told some of the Villa players official Lee Mason made the wrong decision.
According to Dawson, he even told goalkeeper Brad Guzan he committed the foul, not Agbonlahor:
The man-advantage didn't work in the Red Devils' favour, and per the club's official Twitter feed, Van Gaal believed his club "gave two points away" in the draw:
The Dutch manager believed United were the better team but reminded reporters that was often the case during the club's dreadful start to the season, where they also dropped a lot of points. Per TV commentator Kelechi Nkoro, he said:
Falcao returned to the squad after starting on the bench against Liverpool, and he justified his manager's decision by scoring the equaliser. Van Gaal was glad the Colombian hitman came through when his team needed him, via Dawson:
Ander Herrera was once again not part of the team, but contrary to what some were reporting, the manager confirmed the Spaniard is suffering from an injury, not illness, per The Sport Bible's Liam:
Lambert disagreed the Red Devils were by far the superior team, as he felt the hosts certainly did their part in the match, via Nkoro:
He also reiterated his stance on the controversial red card:
Manchester United's six-match win streak came to an end against Villa, but Falcao's fine headed goal should do wonders for the Colombia international heading into the second part of the season.
With all the clubs in the relegation slots losing, Saturday's result sees Villa put a little more distance between themselves and the bottom of the standings, and Lambert can rightfully be excited about the way his squad neutralised United's powerful attack for the bulk of the afternoon.
