Must-Watch Matchups

Arsenal vs. Hull City

In an eerie twist of fate, last season's finalists, Arsenal and Hull City, were the first two teams to be drawn from the pot of 64, setting up a reenactment of the Wembley crescendo.

The Gunners will be pleased to boast home advantage for the third-round tie, but the Tigers have reason to be hopeful themselves, having earned a 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium in mid-October.

Arsene Wenger's men have lost three of their last six Premier League fixtures but will hope to see the FA Cup give them a boost in the domestic order.

Steve Bruce's side, meanwhile, will once again make their way to north London in the new year with a nothing-to-lose mentality, hoping they can make up for the mistakes of their 2013-14 Wembley defeat.

AFC Wimbledon vs. Liverpool

Another re-staging of past FA Cup finals sees Liverpool travelling to face Wimbledon almost 30 years after their 1987-88 clash.

Ex-Reds striker John Aldridge, who started for Liverpool in that final—which they would go on to lose 1-0—tweeted his feelings in memory of a fixture that saw him take on the powers of the Crazy Gang at their peak:

Lawrie Sanchez's first-half finish was enough to decide the tie on that occasion and Wimbledon will need another upset of even greater proportions if they're to recapture the spirit of that result.

Gary Lineker also tweeted his memories of that Wimbledon team, who boasted a vicious streak that arguably no other team has since shown to this day:

With their Premier League blueprint not exactly going to plan, Liverpool may well look to cup competition as an ideal opportunity to salvage their campaign, with Wimbledon presenting a hopeful route to the next round.
