Leeds' Adryan and the Most Hilariously Obvious Dives Ever

Ryan BaileyDec 2, 2014

Brazilian midfielder Adryan made headlines over the weekend during his Leeds side's victory over Derby for an especially theatrical flop.

After suffering a tackle from Johnny Russell, the 20-year-old fell to the ground, and then began convulsing as if he was in the worst pain of his life.

In honour of the South American youngster's over-the-top reaction, here's 10 of the most hilariously obvious dives ever caught on camera.

Take a look and be sure to leave your terrible dive nominations in the comments.

Morten Gamst Pedersen vs. Arsenal, 2009

1 of 10

With his Blackburn side two goals down at the Emirates, Morten Gamst Pedersen attempted to coax a penalty out of the referee in the dying minutes.

However, the official might have noticed that Bacary Sagna was a few paces behind the Norwegian, who actually appeared to check over his shoulder to see if he could get away with the flop.

This is the second most embarrassing clip of Pedersen on the internet after this

Fernando Torres (Spain) vs. Chile, 2010

2 of 10

During Spain's 2010 World Cup group game against Chile, Fernando Torres flopped in dramatic fashion when defender Marco Estrada made absolutely no contact with him.

Who knew that kicking your own heels could cause such a drastic tumble?

Karmic justice was done when Nando was booked for this flop two years later.

Leonardo Bonucci (Juventus) vs. Palermo

3 of 10

In the last few minutes of a Serie A game between Juventus and Palermo in December 2012, the Old Lady had the chance to finish the tie off with a counter-attack move.

Leonardo Bonucci was gifted a chance to put his side 2-0 up, but instead he decided to produce a rather unsubtle flop upon making contact with the Palermo keeper. He was duly booked for his actions and no doubt scolded for wasting such a golden chance.

Pepe (Real Madrid) vs. Atletico Madrid, 2014

4 of 10

For a "hardman" who dishes out his fair share of crunching tackles, Pepe certainly likes to take a dramatic fall now and then.

One of his most theatrical performances came in March, when some extremely light contact from the back of Diego Godin's head was deemed enough to throw himself to the ground in pretend agony, just yards away from the referee.

Knut Anders Fostervold vs. Stabaek, 1999

5 of 10

Molde's Knut Anders Fostervold was unfortunate to be slapped in the face by Staebek's Petur Marteinsson during a Norwegian Tippeligaen match in 1999.

The force of the slap was brought into serious question when Fostervold appeared to pause for a second before hitting the deck in a hilariously delayed fashion.

Such was the notoriety of the tumble that John Carew later parodied it in a goal celebration.

Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) vs. Milan, 2010

6 of 10

Cristiano Ronaldo has been accused of going down easy more than once in his career, but none of his attempts to deceive the referee were quite as transparent as this incident from the Champions League in 2010.

Milan's Ignazio Abate touched the Portuguese star's neck while grappling for the ball, which somehow led to him dropping to the floor clutching his face.

Oleksandr Aliyev vs. Arsenal, 2008

7 of 10

The Dynamo Kiev midfielder made a convincing case for a foul when he rolled around on the floor during a 2008 Champions League game at the Emirates.

However, after noticing that referee Alain Hamer wasn't buying what he was selling, the Russian jumped up and continued as if he had miraculous powers of healing.

It wasn't a good day at the office for Aliyev, who was later sent off for shoving the ref.

Alberto Gilardino (Milan) vs. Celtic, 2007

8 of 10

Alberto Gilardino will never be nominated for an Oscar if his acting in a 2007 Champions League match against Celtic is anything to go by.

After breaking into the opposition's box, the World Cup-winning striker hit the floor several paces after being subjected to a reasonable slide tackle.

The referee found it as obvious as those watching at home, and immediately dispatched a yellow card.

Norbert Meier vs. Koln, 2005

9 of 10

It's not always players who are guilty of bad diving—sometimes managers do it too.

In 2005, MSV Duisburg manager Norbert Meier argued with Koln's Albert Streit on the sideline, with the two pressing their heads together as they bickered.

Meier then head butted the midfielder before falling to the ground himself in a very cynical attempt to get the player a red card.

Streit was sent off, but Meier suffered far greater consequences: He was sacked two days later and banned from the game for three months.

Rivaldo (Brazil) vs. Turkey, 2002

10 of 10

Dives don't come much more obvious and high profile than the stunt Rivaldo pulled at the 2002 World Cup.

While waiting to take a corner against Turkey, the Barcelona star was hit on the thigh by a pass from Hakan Unsal.

Rivaldo then proceeded to slay the dragon named sportsmanship by falling to the ground clutching his face, earning Unsal a red card for an innocuous incident.

After pulling off an obvious moment of cheating in one of the most high-profile games possible, the Brazilian was fined by FIFA. However, he still had the gall to claim he was the victim of the incident, insisting via The Guardian he is "not a player who fakes fouls."

That statement is almost as laughable as the dive itself.
