Pardew Reveals Extent of Krul Ankle Injury

Newcastle United will undergo their next "four or five games" without first-choice goalkeeper Tim Krul after Alan Pardew revealed the extent of his No. 1's ankle injury following Saturday's 1-0 defeat to West Ham.

The Dutchman failed to feature at Upton Park after picking up the injury in training this past week, and Pardew was quoted by BBC Sport in explaining:

"Rob Elliot will be in goal for the next four or five games. ... It's been blow after blow this year, but we've rode them, and that's been the key to our success. We've put younger players in and those in the group. We lose Tim, but Rob's produced a super performance."

The Magpies have been in fantastic form of late. Prior to Saturday's loss in East London, Newcastle had won their previous six games in succession across all competitions, including wins over Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool.

In that span of time, defence was a particular strength, as the club conceded just one goal across the six fixtures. Aaron Cresswell's winner at Upton Park—the team's first goal—leaked in more than 400 minutes of play.

Pardew can only hope that Elliot is able to marshall the back four with the same domineering presence Krul held of late, with fixtures against Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Everton all coming over the next month.
