10 Best Golazos from World Football This Weekend
Some weekends, there are a dearth of quality goals scored in world football. Other weekends, it feels impossible to condense the Bobby Dazzlers, Thronkers and absolute Worldies into one single top-10 ranking.
This weekend definitely fell into the latter camp, with some games even seeing more than one brilliant goal—step forward Manchester United, Roma and Porto!
Enjoy this week's carefully considered ranking—which features beautiful goals from England, Germany, Australia, Portugal and Italy—and be sure to leave a comment about your favourite.
10. Robin van Persie (Manchester United) vs. Hull
1 of 10
Manchester United made light work of Hull at Old Trafford on Saturday, scoring three unanswered goals in what might have been their best performance of the season so far.
Wayne Rooney scored with a tidy finish just before the break, but the best strike of the afternoon came from Robin van Persie, who picked up the ball around 25 yards from goal and launched a screamer past Alan McGregor.
9. Arjen Robben (Bayern Munich) vs. Hertha Berlin
2 of 10Bayern Munich's undefeated streak continued on Saturday with a victory over Hertha Berlin.
The only goal of the game at the Olympiastadion came from Arjen Robben, who picked up a silky Thomas Muller backheel on the edge of the area to curl a lovely shot into the Hertha net.
8. Tranquillo Barnetta (Schalke) vs. Mainz
3 of 10Schalke bounced back from their midweek drubbing at the hands of Chelsea with a 4-1 win over Mainz.
Swiss midfielder Tranquillo Barnetta scored the Gelsenkirchen side's third goal with a wonderful curling shot from outside the area.
7. Kevin Mirallas (Everton) vs. Tottenham
4 of 10
Kevin Mirallas has a few pretty goals under his belt this season but scored one of his best at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
The Belgian opened the scoring against Tottenham by cutting onto his favoured right foot and launching a gorgeous curling shot over Hugo Lloris.
6. Bernie Ibini-Isei (Sydney FC) vs. Western Sydney Wanderers
5 of 10The Sydney derby finished with honours even on Saturday, with Sydney FC bagging an equaliser against Western Sydney Wanderers four minutes after they went behind in the first half.
Striker Bernie Ibini-Isei netted the equaliser for the visitors in style with a fantastic left-footed strike that followed a darting run down the right flank.
5. Fredy Montero (Sporting Lisbon) vs. Vitoria Setubal
6 of 10Fredy Montero added another golazo to his impressive YouTube highlight reel during Sporting's 3-0 win over Setubal in the Portuguese Primeira Liga on Saturday.
In the 63rd minute, Montero scored Sporting's second goal with a stunning 35-yard drive. The keeper never stood a chance.
4. Sean Geddes (Worcester) vs. Barrow
7 of 10One of the best goals of the weekend didn't come from a professional league game.
Non-League Worcester defeated Barrow 3-0 in the FA Trophy on Saturday, and former Manchester United trainee Sean Geddes earned his 15 minutes of fame with an incredible "rabona" chip.
They don't come much cockier than that!
3. Jose Holebas (Roma) vs. Internazionale
8 of 10Roma maintained pressure on Juventus at the top of Serie A with a storming 4-2 win over Inter Milan at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.
Miralem Pjanic scored a great free-kick in injury time, but the best goal of the afternoon came from Jose Holebas shortly after the break.
The left-back ran from inside his own half, beat two defenders and struck an unstoppable shot past Samir Handanovic.
And that's why Ashley Cole isn't a regular starter for the Giallorossi.
2. Bruno Peres (Torino) vs. Juventus
9 of 10Juventus emerged 2-1 victors in the Turin derby on Sunday thanks to a late and great strike from Andrea Pirlo.
The best goal of the game, however, came from Torino right-back Bruno Peres, who sprinted from his own penalty box to the Old Lady's to score a career-defining solo golazo.
1. Danilo (Porto) vs Rio Ave
10 of 10Porto stormed to a 5-0 win over Rio Ave on Sunday, with two sensational goals coming in the dying minutes.
With two minutes of regular time remaining, Alex Sandro scored an amazing backheel, albeit with the assistance of the defender trying to block him.
Five minutes later, Brazilian right-back Danilo scored an incredibly powerful left-footed drive from outside the box, completing a run that started in his own half.
