Stan's 5-Point Stance: Simeone for Arsenal, Man Utd for 3rd, Aguero Saving City

Stan CollymoreNov 26, 2014

This week's five-point stance sees former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore tackle subjects related to Arsenal, Man City, Man Utd, West Brom and his former club Aston Villa.

1. Diego Simeone Can Save Arsenal

I was at the Arsenal-Man Utd game on Sunday. The Gunners played well for 20 minutes before they were found out by a resurgent Manchester United. The "Arsene Wenger out" camp is getting stronger by the day.

I had 11 Arsenal fans call my talkSport show at the weekend. Every single one of them—and they were mostly season-ticket holders—wanted Wenger to go.

I agree with them. Respect is due for the things he's achieved at the club, but it's time Wenger moved on. I'd like Diego Simeone to come in at Arsenal. He could turn this group of shrinking violets into a machine.

2. Aguero Gets Man City Out of Jail Yet Again

Just like Alexis Sanchez at Arsenal, Sergio Aguero is the difference for Manchester City.

Aguero is standing head and shoulders above the rest at City. Without his finishing prowess against Bayern Munich, the Germans would have walked it and Manuel Pellegrini's job would have been in serious doubt.

As it is, Aguero pounced and City have a cup final in Rome to look forward to. It could be the game that sees City fans finally fall in love with the Champions League.

Aguero was superb. He might not be at the level of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi or Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but he's in the next tier down for me. He's been City's saviour this season.

3. Man Utd Should be Targeting Third, Not Fourth

Liverpool have imploded, Spurs haven't hit their stride, Arsenal are in trouble and Everton aren't quite there yet.

All of those things combined could see Manchester United finish third in the Premier League, as the best of the rest behind Chelsea and Manchester City.

To finish third would give Louis van Gaal a huge boost and make a real statement of the fact he can lead them back to glory. Fourth might have been the initial goal, but I think United can go one better based on the evidence so far.

4. Aston Villa Are Betraying Their Tradition

My old club Villa are celebrating their 140th anniversary, but we played in front of a really low crowd against Southampton on Monday (25,311) and the mood around the club is a depressing one right now.

I tried to be positive, but I'm really struggling to see what Villa are all about these days.

All I'm seeing them do is have a short spell on the counter-attack and spend the rest of the game on the edge of their penalty box.

I want to see this club entertain and play to their tradition. Something needs to change, and both Paul Lambert and Randy Lerner need to do better.

LEICESTER, ENGLAND - NOVEMBER 01: Saido Berahino of West Brom celebrates with team mates after Esteban Cambiasso of Leicester City scored an own goal during the Barclays Premier League match between Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion at The King Pow

5. Saido Berahino Should Stay at West Brom

There's a lot of speculation about his future, but I think it's vitally important Saido Berahino stays at West Bromwich Albion until at least the end of the season.

January would be too soon for a move. He needs to get to 15 goals this season and prove himself as the genuine article.

Berahino needs to show consistency and continue to develop. I'd even suggest he stays put until the summer of Euro 2016, by which time he could be in the England reckoning and ready for a move.
