Key Results
Arsenal 1-2 Manchester United

On paper, it was a game that Arsenal should have won comfortably with their superior midfield and bench. But Manchester United finally ignited their season with a shock win at the Emirates.
An own goal by Keiran Gibbs and excellent finish by Wayne Rooney saw United get the goals they needed to capture the points, with the returning Olivier Giroud grabbing a consolation, deep into injury time.
The Gunners started the game in dominant fashion, with Louis van Gaal reverting to the 5-3-2 he employed during United's pre-season campaign, and at the World Cup with the Netherlands.
And the system seemed to confuse his players, with Chris Smalling teamed up with young prospects—Tyler Blackett and Paddy McNair—in a three-man central defence.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was in electric form, running at United's makeshift defence and bursting through the midfield almost at will.
But despite pressurising United strongly for the first half an hour, Arsene Wenger's team were unable to grab the breakthrough, allowing LvG's unit to find their way into the game.
After a goalless first half, it was United who found themselves ahead. A cross by substitute Ashley Young—on for the injured Luke Shaw—caused havoc in the Arsenal defence, and Antonio Valencia's cross-shot was deflected into his own net by Gibbs.
The goal made Arsenal make the decision to go all-out attack—and the tactic was to lose them the match.
As the Gunners piled forward, United sat patiently waiting for the perfect counter-attack. And it finally came late in the game, as Angel Di Maria freed Wayne Rooney—and the England captain ended the threat of Wenger's side, as captured on Vine:
"A shot on goal and an actual goal! Wayne Rooney settles things at the Emirates to make it 2-0. (via @ActualFutbol) https://t.co/ncEQCDaPLZ

The result, which saw Arsenal beaten at home for the first time in over a year—per Rob Harris of Yahoo—was met with anger from the north London club's fans.
Arsenal supporter and journalist, Piers Morgan, recently questioned Wenger's tactics and tenure, calling for the manager to be sacked:

And Wenger was clear in his assessments, saying his team were not clinical enough when it mattered most, per ESPNFC:
"We dominated for 80 percent of the time, but we were not efficient enough defensively or in the final third."
The win sees United into the top four and challenging for a Champions League position. Arsenal sink to eighth and sit just 13th in the Premier League form guide.
Crystal Palace 3-1 Liverpool

Brendan Rodgers' woes continue after being beaten by Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.
The loss was Liverpool's third straight defeat of the campaign, and the Reds are clearly in a world of trouble and fear.
The day had started well for the Anfield giants, with an opening goal coming for them by Rickie Lambert—who scored after just two minutes.
But strikers Dwight Gayle, Joe Ledley and Mile Jedinak sealed the points for the Eagles, who outfought and dismantled their opponents.
The loss leaves Liverpool 18 points adrift of Chelsea—and it seems that no title challenge will be on the menu this season.
The fortunes of Liverpool and United seemed to have switched just a few months ago, as Sir Alex Ferguson's champions were turned into also-rans by David Moyes.
Liverpool were playing electrifying attacking football with Luis Suarez in their side, but since his departure the team has looked fractured.
Rodgers now faces a battle to save his job as he approaches uncharted territory as a coach. It is questionable if he has the squad to turn things around, and if he cannot patch up his defence in the coming weeks—further defeats and disasters will surely come.
