NFL Power Rankings: Week 11 Standings Based on Latest Super Bowl Odds

Rob GoldbergNov 12, 2014

Certain NFL teams simply continue to find ways to prove doubters wrong.

The squads with the best odds to win the Super Bowl are not always the ones on top of the standings, because the general public continues to doubt the surprise winners. We keep waiting for them to fall, but the wins keep coming every week.

With the popular bets like the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots overshadowing some deserving organizations, this could lead to an interesting end of the season.

Here is a complete look at Super Bowl odds for each squad, via Oddsshark.com, along with a breakdown of some of the more overlooked teams.

32. Oakland Raiders (5,000-1)

For about the first 25 minutes of game time against the Denver Broncos, it seemed as though he Raiders would remain competitive. However, a 10-6 lead turned into a 41-10 deficit way too quickly and everyone remembered this was one of the best teams in the league against arguably the worst.

It is hard to imagine things getting too much better this season for Oakland.

31. Jacksonville Jaguars (3,000-1)

There is no shame in giving up points to the Dallas Cowboys with a healthy Tony Romo, but the real concern is the play of Blake Bortles. Every time he shows promise, he ends up costing the team with a big mistake.

The Jaguars will give him time to learn through these problems, but until he does, Jacksonville will not be winning too many games.

30. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2,000-1)

The offense might be slightly smoother under Josh McCown, but the offensive line is still a major problem in both run and pass plays. Until this is solved, it will not matter who is under center.

Of course, three turnovers are also not going to help anyone win games.

29. New York Jets (2,000-1)

It is difficult to understand how a team that looked so terrible in recent weeks was able to defeat a team that appeared unstoppable, but that's what happened when the Jets upset the Pittsburgh Steelers at home.

Michael Vick has injected some life into the organization, which should at least make the squad tolerable to watch through the end of 2014.

28. Tennessee Titans (1,000-1)

The Titans have nothing else to do but let the kids play at this point. They can use the rest of the year to see what Zach Mettenberger can do with Bishop Sankey alongside him in the backfield and Justin Hunter and Kendall Wright catching passes.

Although it might not lead to a lot of wins, it will make it easier to evaluate everyone in the offseason.

27. St. Louis Rams (750-1)

The Rams know how to play their divisional opponents tough, but this team is still a long way from contention. While Austin Davis looked solid earlier in the year, he no longer seems like the long-term answer while preseason starter Sam Bradford cannot stay healthy.

Until the quarterback question is solved, this is unlikely to be a playoff team.

26. Washington Redskins (500-1)

The bye week should give the Redskins a chance to once again get comfortable with Robert Griffin III leading the offense. He still has the talent to be a game-changer in the NFL, but he has to stay healthy and avoid mistakes.

There are a lot of issues on this roster from top to bottom, but Griffin has the chance to right the ship in this struggling franchise.

25. New York Giants (500-1)

Odell Beckham Jr. has been a star for the Giants since entering the lineup, but the offense has no balance as long as Rashad Jennings remains on the sidelines with an injury. There is now too much pressure on Eli Manning, and he continues to make mistakes.

Then again, allowing 350 yards and five touchdowns on the ground is not going to lead to too many wins regardless.

24. Chicago Bears (300-1)

There is very little positive you can say about the Bears after their thrashing at the hands of the Green Bay Packers Sunday night. The score was 45-0 early in the third quarter before it ended 55-14.

While there is a lot of blame to go around, Jay Cutler's Total QBR of 6.0 out of 100 showcased his struggles. If he cannot improve, the Bears might have to make some tough decisions this offseason.

23. Carolina Panthers (250-1)

Like the Bears, the Panthers were embarrassed on national television. The Philadelphia Eagles were dominant on both sides of the ball while Cam Newton could not do much with little help around him.

With an offensive line looking like one of the worst in the NFL, things seem likely to get worse before getting better.

22. Houston Texans (200-1)

After going 2-14 a year ago, starting the year with a 4-5 record is something to be happy about. However, the team will take another step toward preparing for the future with Ryan Mallett getting the start in Week 11.

It is hard to imagine the former New England Patriots backup becoming an instant star, but he can provide some hope for the future with a strong performance Sunday.

21. Buffalo Bills (150-1)

The Bills were forced to play Sunday with two of their top offensive playmakers dealing with injuries, as noted by Vic Carucci of The Buffalo News:

While both Sammy Watkins and Fred Jackson played, they were each limited and only combined for 11 touches. This took away a big portion of the offense, although they should be better in the future.

Still, the defense showed again that it is one of the top units in the league. The Bills held a 13-3 fourth-quarter lead against the Kansas City Chiefs and only blew the lead after a fumbled punt return.

Buffalo ranks in the top 10 against both the pass and the run, while sitting first in the league in sacks and second in takeaways. The aggressive unit can keep almost any opponent off the board, and a healthy set of weapons on offense could make this entire team dangerous.

20. Atlanta Falcons (150-1)

A road win over the Buccaneers ended the five-game losing streak and represented the first victory away from home all season. That being said, the squad is still 1-6 this season against teams that don't reside in Tampa Bay.

Atlanta still has a long way to go if it wants to get back to where it was two years ago.

19. Minnesota Vikings (150-1)

Two wins heading into the bye gives the Vikings some confidence going forward. Teddy Bridgewater has looked composed on offense while the young defense continues to make plays.

Considering how dependent we all thought this team was on Adrian Peterson, the recent success has to be impressive and extremely encouraging.

18. Miami Dolphins (66-1)

Despite the loss to the Detroit Lions, the Dolphins have played extremely well defensively while Ryan Tannehill continues to improve as a passer.

However, the big story for the rest of the year is whether the team can survive the loss of Branden Albert, who will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL and MCL. The offensive line was the big change from 2013, and any step backwards could end up being extremely damaging.

17. Cincinnati Bengals (50-1)

It seems like only yesterday we were calling the Bengals one of the best teams in football after a 3-0 start. However, the squad has just two wins since Week 3 and recently lost at home for the first time in two seasons against the Cleveland Browns.

With five of the last seven games of the year coming on the road, this year can continue to get worse in Cincinnati.

16. Cleveland Browns (50-1)

The Browns might not be used to being in first place this late in the season, but there is no denying they deserve it. Cleveland has five wins in the last six games, including a dominant road victory over the Bengals Thursday night.

While the players are certain to be excited about what they have accomplished to this point, head coach Mike Pettine kept things in perspective in his press conference:

"

There's no prize for being 6-3. The only thing that's done for us is our games are meaningful now. You still have to have the ability to put that one in a box and move onto the next one. It makes it a little more difficult because of what they've been hearing now for three or four days, but I didn't have to hit them with a bunch of coach speak and all that.

"

The AFC North has been arguably the toughest division in football this season with each squad sitting at 6-4 or better. Despite the challenge, the Browns have the talent to keep up the current success and win the division.

Considering all of this has been done without Josh Gordon, who will be returning in Week 12, makes this team scary.

15. San Diego Chargers (40-1)

The bye came at the perfect time after three losses in a row dropped the Chargers to 5-4. The week off will not only help the team get healthy, but the coaching staff can use the time to figure out what has gone wrong.

Winnable games against the Raiders and Rams should help San Diego get back on track in the coming weeks.

14. Pittsburgh Steelers (40-1)

The Steelers always seem to find a way to play to the level of their opponent. This leads to some good wins against the Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens, but it also leads to losses to the Jets and Buccaneers.

All of a sudden, the upcoming battle against the Titans could end up being a toss-up.

13. Baltimore Ravens (40-1)

It is weird to think the Ravens currently sit in last place in the AFC North with a 6-4 record, but that's the case in a division where teams keep winning. Baltimore will have to work that much harder to keep up with Cleveland, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh.

The team better use this bye week to set itself up for the stretch run.

12. Kansas City Chiefs (25-1)

After an 0-2 start, the Chiefs have played as well as anyone in the NFL with six wins in seven games. Like the Seattle Seahawks last season, Kansas City has found a way to shut down the pass and rank first in the league in passing yards allowed.

With Jamaal Charles continuing to make big plays on the ground and Alex Smith avoiding mistakes, the Chiefs can be a serious threat in the AFC.

11. New Orleans Saints (20-1)

A week after winning on the road for the first time all year, the Saints broke a streak of 11 home wins in a row. We now don't know what to think about this squad.

The good news is the NFC South has looked terrible throughout the season. Even with some more inconsistency, this squad should be able to take home the division crown.

10. Dallas Cowboys (18-1)

A healthy Tony Romo makes such a big difference for the Cowboys, who have one of the most difficult offenses to defend in the league. The quarterback might make mistakes, but he helps stretch the defense and gives more room for DeMarco Murray in the run game.

As long as Romo can stay on the field and the defense keeps playing like it has, the Cowboys can keep winning games.

9. Detroit Lions (16-1)

If you asked an average football fan which defense was the best in football, few of them would probably list the Lions. However, the squad has been incredible on that side of the ball, ranking first in the NFL in both yards and points allowed per game.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald joked about how the players were all over the place against the Dolphins:

The defense is a major reason the squad is 7-2 despite dealing with key injuries on offense to players like Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush. As these players get healthy, the offense will be able to carry its slack in the second half of the year.

Matthew Stafford has a chance to spread the ball around to people besides just Golden Tate, and it could make this squad even better going forward.

8. San Francisco 49ers (16-1)

Everyone seemed ready to count the 49ers out, but an overtime win in New Orleans changed the mindset. Even with Patrick Willis out for the year, the team is hoping to get Aldon Smith and NaVorro Bowman back before too long.

More importantly, the offense looked much better with a strong run game in Week 10 and hopefully created a blueprint that will help for the rest of the year.

7. Philadelphia Eagles (12-1)

The defense might have been a question mark coming into the year, but the unit is opportunistic and can make big plays. This makes up for some missed coverages in the secondary.

Meanwhile, Chip Kelly can run an offense with seemingly anyone at quarterback, most recently Mark Sanchez. The veteran fits well into the system and should help keep the Eagles ahead for the next few months.

6. Arizona Cardinals (12-1)

The Cardinals suffered some misfortune with Carson Palmer going down for the season with a torn ACL. Despite this, Drew Stanton has fared well when called upon, as noted by Bleacher Report's Cian Fahey:

In reality, there is little reason to doubt the Cardinals at this point based on what we have seen all season. They have lost quality players on both sides of the ball, including Palmer for three games earlier in the year, and yet they keep winning games.

Arizona currently has the best record in football at 8-1 thanks to the No. 4 scoring defense in the NFL along with an offense that features quality playmakers like Andre Ellington, Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Floyd and John Brown.

While the team might slow down a bit initially with Stanton, the Cardinals should be able to keep winning and be a forced to be reckoned with in the playoffs.

5. Indianapolis Colts (10-1)

The Colts have won six of the last seven games, but they will be set for a real test in Week 11 against the New England Patriots. A win in this matchup would not only put the squad in good shape to win the AFC South, but it will give the team confidence to succeed in the playoffs.

4. Seattle Seahawks (17-2)

Although the Seahawks have had an up-and-down season, the latest win over the Giants showed what they can do on the field. They pounded the run and Marshawn Lynch showed he can still carry the team on his back.

With the defense rounding back into form, there is no question this squad will once again be a top contender for the Super Bowl.

3. Green Bay Packers (15-2)

Aaron Rodgers sure made it look easy with six touchdowns in the first half against the Bears. He now has 15 touchdowns in four home games with no interceptions.

This will be needed in a high-profile NFC battle against the Eagles. Both teams will light up the scoreboard, but Rodgers gives the Packers a big advantage late.

2. New England Patriots (13-2)

Despite the recent five-game winning streak, there are still questions about the Patriots' play on the road. They are just 2-2 away from Gillette Stadium this year, and it will be over a month between road games before they face the Colts on Sunday.

Tom Brady has played lights-out in recent months, but he still has to pass this test before you can trust New England as a Super Bowl contender.

1. Denver Broncos (13-4)

Peyton Manning has been so good lately that he can have five touchdown passes and it seems like a bad day. Even when he struggles, he usually finds a way to help his team light up the scoreboard and pull out a win.

The big question is where the defense can hold up after getting blown out by the Patriots in Week 9. The unit has the talent to succeed, but there needs to be more consistency if the team wants to raise the Lombardi Trophy.
