Jose Mourinho Talks Liverpool's Loss to Chelsea Last Season
Saturday's Premier League clash between Chelsea and Liverpool has everyone talking, including the people who will partake. Blues boss Jose Mourinho reminded the Reds of last year's 2-0 loss and Steven Gerrard's infamous slip, isolating it as the moment the team lost the title.
When asked about both teams' title aspirations coming into this match, he told reporters he believes Liverpool are still title candidates. That makes this match different from last year's encounter, when Chelsea were no longer in the race.
The discussion then turned to "the slip," as reported by the Daily Mail's Matt Barlow:

"It gave the title to Man City, as simple as that. Liverpool, with a point in that match, would have been champions. Without it, they lost the title. It meant nothing to us.After our defeat against Sunderland, our position was the sub-position. That match, for us, meant just professional pride you have to go for every game and try to win, but we were not in the race. It was just a match that gave the title to Man City.
I think they (Liverpool) can't think about last season. They have to think about this season. They have enough motivation for this season.
They don't want to think about last season for the bad memories. I'd go back and think about the good memories, the fantastic matches they had, the victories they had and all the good things they had.

Chelsea came into last year's match having just lost to Sunderland, turning the Premier League title race into a head-to-head between Liverpool and Manchester City.
The Reds held the advantage but crumbled after the 2-0 loss to the Blues, drawing Crystal Palace in their next match and losing out on winning their first title in 24 years.
Liverpool had looked good in that match until captain and club legend Steven Gerrard slipped on Anfield's pitch, allowing Demba Ba a clear path on goal. Former teammate Luis Suarez put the magnitude of the event in words earlier this week, as shared by Goal:
The buildup to Saturday's clash has been chippy, and as one might expect, Mourinho's comments on last year's match were quickly pulled out of context. The Portuguese manager was asked a simple question and gave a simple answer, never once "taunting" the Reds, as Metro suggested.
Gerrard and Liverpool won't like being reminded about last year's encounter, but on Saturday, they'll have a chance to deal with some of their demons as they face an undefeated Chelsea squad.
Handing the Blues their first loss wouldn't taste as sweet as knocking them out of the title race, but it would be close enough for the Reds.
