B/R Experts Predict Top Matches in World Football for Weekend of Nov. 8-9
There will be plenty of eyes on Merseyside on Saturday, as Liverpool and Chelsea do battle.
While Jose Mourinho's Chelsea are flying high at the top of the Premier League, Brendan Rodgers' Liverpool are struggling for form. Both had unhappy evenings in the Champions League in midweek, with the Reds losing at Real Madrid and Chelsea drawing at Maribor.
Both managers rotated their sides in Europe ahead of this game, so expect the two teams to be firing on all cylinders.
Elsewhere, Manchester United will look to get back on track against Crystal Palace. A similar comment applies to Barcelona when they travel to Almeria.
The big guns in France lock horns, with PSG hosting Marseille. Parma travels to Juventus in Serie A.
Our experts have been scanning the form book as they do battle for B/R bragging rights.
So do you agree with their predictions for this weekend? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
Liverpool vs. Chelsea
1 of 6Alex Livie: Liverpool 0-2 Chelsea
First goalscorer: Diego Costa
Chelsea are far and away the best side in the Premier League and will strengthen their grip on the title race with three points at Anfield.
Alex Dimond: Liverpool 1-1 Chelsea
First goalscorer: Diego Costa
Liverpool will have learned some important lessons from the Real Madrid game, and they may be better prepared for this match—and more motivated—than they have been in a while. They could well snatch a draw.
Jerrad Peters: Liverpool vs. Chelsea: 1-3
First goalscorer: Diego Costa
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers clearly had this game in mind when he picked his team to face Real Madrid, but his first-choice side still won't have enough to beat the Premier League leaders on Saturday. The Reds haven't picked up a win against the Blues since May 2012.
Karl Matchett: Liverpool 1-0 Chelsea
First goalscorer: Steven Gerrard
Liverpool have been dreadful, Chelsea have been largely excellent. Chelsea also won at Anfield late last season. Everything points to an away victory here. That’s football….right?
Michael Cummings: Liverpool 1-2 Chelsea
First goalscorer: Cesc Fabregas
Chelsea to march on with yet another win as Liverpool's struggles continue.
Sam Tighe: Liverpool 0-2 Chelsea
First goalscorer: Diego Costa
Liverpool are in dire straits, and this is not the fixture you want to try and fix it.
Will Tidey: Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea
First goalscorer: Raheem Sterling
Yep, I'm going bold. Liverpool have a point to prove, Raheem Sterling will be as fresh as a newborn puppy, and I think they'll stun Chelsea at Anfield.
Manchester United vs. Crystal Palace
2 of 6
Alex Livie: Manchester United 3-0 Crystal Palace
First goalscorer: Robin van Persie
The Red Devils have made a poor start to the season, but a home game with Crystal Palace offers the chance to get back on track—and they will take it.
Alex Dimond: Manchester United 3-1 Crystal Palace
First goalscorer: Wayne Rooney
Manchester United are vulnerable at the moment but, under Neil Warnock, Crystal Palace look all over the place. This could well be an open, exciting game—but it should only go one way.
Jerrad Peters: Manchester United 2-1 Crystal Palace
First goalscorer: Wayne Rooney
Manchester United picked up a vital point against Chelsea late last month and were no pushovers in Sunday's derby match, despite being reduced to 10 men in the first half. That said, it's still unlikely they'll keep a clean sheet anytime soon.
Karl Matchett: Manchester United 4-0 Crystal Palace
First goalscorer: Wayne Rooney
The Red Devils haven’t looked anything like steady at the back, but that’s very much becoming a Premier League trait rather than an exclusively United one. Palace under Neil Warnock are timid and poor, and they will be missing Mile Jedinak. A walkover.
Michael Cummings: Manchester United 3-2 Crystal Palace
First goalscorer: Wayne Rooney
It won't be easy for United—and lately it rarely is—but I fancy LVG's men to bounce back from their derby defeat with a win at Old Trafford.
Sam Tighe: Manchester United 3-0 Crystal Palace
First goalscorer: Wayne Rooney
I feel another impressive home win for United against a lowly, unsuspecting side coming on. Let's not get too carried away this time, shall we?
Will Tidey: Manchester United 4-2 Crystal Palace
First goalscorer: Wayne Rooney
United are getting slowly better, but their defence is still a worry. They'll win here but not without giving Palace a sniff.
Almeria vs. Barcelona
3 of 6
Alex Livie: Almeria 0-3 Barcelona
First goalscorer: Lionel Messi
Barcelona are another giant having a tough time at present, but they possess too much class to be in a slump for long and can take a confidence-boosting three points.
Alex Dimond: Almeria 1-2 Barcelona
First goalscorer: Lionel Messi
Barcelona badly need a positive league result after recent disappointments. And surely it is time for Messi to finally break the all-time La Liga goalscoring record?
Jerrad Peters: Almeria 0-3 Barcelona
First goalscorer: Neymar
Barcelona's Champions League victory at Ajax ended a two-match losing skid, and now the Catalan giants will be looking to go on a bit of a run. They enter Saturday's match in fourth place in La Liga but have an excellent record against Almeria, who are winless in four.
Karl Matchett: Almeria 0-3 Barcelona
First goalscorer: Lionel Messi
Time to get back to winning ways domestically for Barcelona, and Almeria shouldn’t be presenting any great opposition. All will be well again after a couple of wins for the Camp Nou side.
Michael Cummings: Almeria 1-2 Barcelona
First goalscorer: Luis Suarez
Another scare for Barcelona, but the Blaugrana should have more than enough firepower to see off Almeria.
Sam Tighe: Almeria 0-2 Barcelona
First goalscorer: Neymar
Barca in a "crisis"? So they lost a couple of games—one against Real Madrid. Come on, people.
Will Tidey: Almeria 0-3 Barcelona
First goalscorer: Luis Suarez
Comfortable win for Barcelona on the road, to bring a sense of the norm to things in La Liga.
PSG vs. Marseille
4 of 6
Alex Livie: PSG 2-0 Marseille
First goalscorer: Lucas Moura
This is as big as it gets in Ligue 1. Marseille have impressed this term, but PSG have heaps of quality and will get the job done on home soil.
Alex Dimond: PSG 2-2 Marseille
First goalscorer: Edinson Cavani
An intriguing tie at the top of French football. PSG have their issues and injuries but so too do Marseille. Marcelo Bielsa is a more inventive coach than Laurent Blanc, however, and he might be able to engineer something from this game.
Jerrad Peters: PSG 1-1 Marseille
First goalscorer: Andre-Pierre Gignac
Marseille come into this top-of-the-table clash four points ahead of PSG in the Ligue 1 table, but they've scored just once against the reigning champions in their last five matches against them. There won't be much separating the two sides on Sunday.
Karl Matchett: PSG 2-2 Marseille
First goalscorer: Lucas Moura
The Ligue 1 game of the season, and I’ll back it to be a memorable one. PSG to enjoy the majority of the ball, but Marseille to work them for every pass and chance.
Michael Cummings: PSG 1-1 Marseille
First goalscorer: Edinson Cavani
PSG have won three straight, but Marseille are atop the table for a reason.
Sam Tighe: PSG 1-1 Marseille
First goalscorer: Andre-PierreGignac
PSG are hitting form, but they're not good enough to defeat Marseille just yet.
Will Tidey: PSG 1-0 Marseille
First goalscorer: Edinson Cavani
PSG to edge a tight one in Ligue 1, the goal coming from Cavani.
Juventus vs. Parma
5 of 6
Alex Livie: Juventus 2-0 Parma
First goalscorer: Paul Pogba
Juventus suffered a surprise reverse at the hands of Genoa last month, but they swiftly got back on track and will prove too good for Parma.
Alex Dimond: Juventus 2-0 Parma
First goalscorer: Fernando Llorente
After the blip against Genoa recently, Juve will have a renewed focus and should brush Parma aside with relative ease.
Jerrad Peters: Juventus 2-0 Parma
First goalscorer: Fernando Llorente
Juventus will have been boosted by their win over Olympiacos in the Champions League and should easily beat a Parma side sitting second from bottom in Serie A. Fernando Llorente was a difference-maker for the Bianconeri against the Greeks and could well be restored to the starting line-up for this match.
Karl Matchett: Juventus 3-0 Parma
First goalscorer: Carlos Tevez
Parma beat Inter Milan last week, but they had been on a horrendous run beforehand. Juve will dispose of them comfortably.
Michael Cummings: Juventus 2-0 Parma
First goalscorer: Giorgio Chiellini
Giorgio Chiellini to open the scoring with a header from a set piece as Juventus cruise to victory on home soil.
Sam Tighe: Juventus 2-0 Parma
First goalscorer: Carlos Tevez
Juventus bailed themselves out of another potential humiliation in midweek, but Parma should be a lot easier.
Will Tidey: Juventus 3-0 Parma
First goalscorer: Andrea Pirlo
I like Juve to win this one easily, with the bearded genius scoring early on from a dead-ball situation.
