Bayern Munich vs. Roma: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Rory MarsdenNov 4, 2014

Roma face a tough task on Wednesday as they travel to the Allianz Arena to play Bayern Munich in what will be an attempt to redeem themselves after their humiliating 7-1 home defeat to the Bundesliga champions two weeks ago.

Bayern can confirm top spot in Champions League Group E with a win, but Roma will be desperate for victory as they attempt to draw away from Manchester City and CSKA Moscow.

Roma's recent form has not been particularly good and they need to be much more clinical in front of goal if they are to have any chance of overcoming Bayern.

MOENCHENGLADBACH, GERMANY - OCTOBER 26: Franck Ribery of Muenchen in action with Thorben Marx of Gladbach during the Bundesliga match between Borussia Moenchengladbach and FC Bayern Muenchen at Borussia-Park on October 26, 2014 in Moenchengladbach, Germa

It is much easier said than done against this Bayern team but if Roma wish to pick up a vital win—or at least avoid defeat—on Wednesday, they have to keep the ball better.

The Serie A side started brightly at the Stadio Olimpico, pressing Bayern effectively and getting the ball back as a result, but when Pep Guardiola's men took control of the game, Roma had no answer.

The Italians had only 35 per cent possession, per BBC Sport, making it very difficult for them to create chances.

Shorn of Kevin Strootman's industry, Seydou Keita and Daniele de Rossi are the options in the centre of midfield and it is essential that Roma provide plenty more competition in the engine room.

Gervinho is Roma's most effective creative outlet, per WhoScored.com, and he will be essential for making goalscoring opportunities on the counter-attack:

There is an argument for starting Mattia Destro up front as he is very clinical in front of goal, per Italian football writer James Horncastle. This could be a potentially key factor as Roma are unlikely to get bags of chances:

Roma lost 2-0 to Napoli in Serie A on Saturday but must pick themselves up quickly to avoid another schooling from Bayern.

However, the Italians came up against one of the most impressive displays of recent times in being thrashed 7-1 and Bayern certainly go into this match as heavy favourites.

In Rome, Guardiola played a fluid, almost undefinable formation, per Zonal Marking's Michael Cox, which made defending a very difficult task for the home side:

They will be very eager to claim a win to confirm top spot in the group with two games to spare, allowing Guardiola the chance to rest key players. They come into the fixture on the back of a 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund at the weekend.

Franck Ribery could be essential for the hosts, his involvement for the final 20 minutes against Dortmund having changed the game.

Roma and Rudi Garcia will have learnt many lessons from two weeks ago and another drubbing is unlikely on Wednesday.

However, Bayern's superior quality and home advantage suggests a win for the Bundesliga side is the most likely outcome, sending Guardiola's side through as they aim for a second Champions League title in three years.
