Top 10 Goals from World Football in October
As always, October comprised 31 days and featured Halloween right at the end, but it also contained some pretty special goals from all around the world.
There were netbusters, thunderbolts, acrobatics and acts of plain ridiculousness as plenty of world football stars found new ways to delight and entertain us.
Here are 10 of the best strikes from the month, including some that you might not have seen.
Alim Ozturk, Hibernian vs. Hearts
1 of 10Picture the scene: It's the 92nd minute of a local derby, you're down to 10 men, your rivals are about to inflict your first defeat of the season upon you, and so you need to do something. Hearts defender Alim Ozturk did this.
The Edinburgh derby—now taking place in Scotland's second tier—has barely seen a more exciting ending, and the Hearts fans certainly enjoyed it.
Saul Berjon, Eibar vs. Levante
2 of 10Eibar's Saul Berjon unleashed his inner Paul Scholes during a 3-3 draw at home to Levante last month, when he found space on the edge of the penalty area and smashed an unstoppable effort into the top corner.
However, did the goalkeeper try and save it or dive out of the way because he was afraid it would hit him?
Erik Lamela, Tottenham vs. Asteras Tripolis
3 of 10You knew that this one was coming, didn't you?
Tottenham's Erik Lamela seemingly redefined physics with this remarkable rabona effort against Asteras Tripolis in the Europa League, a goal that doesn't just get better the more you look at it but also gets more and puzzling at the same time. Why did he even attempt it?
Kevin De Bruyne, Wolfsburg vs. Lille
4 of 10The Europa League was certainly where it was at in October, as witnessed by this stunning strike from Wolfsburg's Kevin De Bruyne to earn his side a point at home to Lille.
The Belgian effortlessly arrowed the sublime volley into the top corner.
Marco Pappa, Colorado Rapids vs. Seattle Sounders
5 of 10Over in MLS, Seattle Sounders' Marco Pappa combined with Clint Dempsey before scoring this delightful goal against the Colorado Rapids.
Pappa's check back inside following Dempsey's clever pass manages to take out both the goalkeeper and defender, and from there he produced an elegant finish that beat both the Rapids players and Dempsey to find the net.
Marc Janko, Brisbane Roar vs. Sydney FC
6 of 10Formerly of Red Bull Salzburg, FC Twente and Porto, giant Austrian forward Marc Janko can these days be found in Australia's A-League with Sydney FC, and his first goal in the division wasn't a bad one.
Following a weak but hardly disastrous goalkeeping clearance, Janko controlled the ball and fired home this brilliant effort that bounced into the corner of the net to open the scoring for his side.
Renato Steffen, Aarau vs. Young Boys
7 of 10Renato Steffen is a 22-year-old Swiss winger for Young Boys who, if he continues scoring goals like this one in his domestic league, you're going to eventually be hearing a lot more about.
Sadly for him, though, extra marks aren't awarded for artistic impression. This strike put Young Boys 2-1 up at Aarau, but they went on to lose 3-2.
Ipswich Town Under-14s vs. Millwall Under-14s
8 of 10From Young Boys to young boys and this brilliant team goal from Ipswich Town's under-14s in a match against their Millwall counterparts.
This clip has already had well over a million views on YouTube, where the goalscorer has been named as one Tom Hughes. That doesn't really matter, though—if ever there was a goal in which the team was the star, it was this one.
Frode Kippe, Stromgodset vs. Lillestrom
9 of 10If this name sounds familiar, then it's because Frode Kippe spent four years at Liverpool between 1998 and 2002—two of which were spent on loan at Stoke City.
Now 36, the only other club that the veteran Norwegian centre-back has played for is Lillestrom, the team he scored this flicked effort for after being set up by a piece of acrobatics from Simen Mikalsen. Does the finish remind you of anything?
Bernard Mendy, Chennaiyin FC vs. Kerala Blasters
10 of 10In other surprising, former defender from English football scoring a great goal-related news, the former Hull City and Bolton right-back Bernard Mendy marked the opening of the new Indian Super League with this great overhead kick.
The 33-year-old Mendy—who had much happier times at Paris Saint-Germain—plays alongside ex-Manchester United and Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre and former Manchester City man Elano for Chennaiyin FC, and if he keeps doing this, then perhaps more star names will sign up.
