Jeremy Maclin, Riley Cooper, Jordan Matthews' Post-Week 8 Fantasy Reaction

Chris RolingOct 26, 2014

In the face of a weak Arizona Cardinals pass defense, Philadelphia Eagles wideouts Jeremy Maclin, Riley Cooper and Jordan Matthews gave fantasy football owners some new data to chew on and digest in the coming weeks.

Maclin, who was last seen posting just one point back in Week 6, exploded with nine receptions for 157 yards and two touchdowns, good for 27 fantasy points—by the start of the fourth quarter. Cooper and Matthews were right behind in the intrigue department as some of the most targeted players on the offense in that same span.

The final numbers shook out like so:

J. Maclin1218721630
R. Cooper588098
J. Matthews6470114

For Maclin owners, this season-best outburst is not all that surprising. In fact, it marks the fifth time in seven games he has gone for double-digit points. Perhaps most impressively, he did it against an elite corner, as Rotoworld's Adam Levitan points out:

This is in no way a time to sell high on Maclin given his consistency. The outlook is not as positive for the other two, though.

Owned in 74.8 percent of leagues, Cooper is quickly becoming an afterthought. He has yet to break into double digits, and on a day that his offense passed more than 40 times to less than 20 rushes, he still registered an underwhelming output.

It is much of the same story for Matthews (owned in 6.4 percent of leagues), who, outside of one 17-point outburst in Week 3, has been a non-factor.

The next two weeks are very favorable matchups against the Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers, two defenses that rank among the six worst teams against fantasy wideouts, but this simply means to get Maclin at all costs and avoid Cooper and Matthews if possible.

It is safe to call Maclin a WR1 over the next two weeks and beyond, while the other two may not see as many opportunities if the team returns to a ground-based attack.
