49ers vs. Broncos: TV Info, Spread, Injury Updates, Game Time and More
Two of the NFL's best enter the spotlight of Sunday Night Football in Week 7 when the Denver Broncos play host to the San Francisco 49ers.
Peyton Manning, now two touchdown passes removed from tying Brett Favre for an NFL record, has his team on a two-game win streak after overcoming stout defenses such as Arizona and the New York Jets. It was a good warm-up, too, given the strength of San Francisco's unit.
Colin Kaepernick, backed by one of the NFL's strongest ground games, has the 49ers on a three-game streak. His defense faces its biggest test of the year, although prior encounters against potent offenses such as Dallas and Philadelphia have gone over well despite the absences of key contributors.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
A contest many would feel comfortable predicting as an eventual Super Bowl encounter is a great way to cap off what is a stellar slate of Sunday action.
Backpedaling into Hostile Territory

When it comes to defense, few do it better than Jim Harbaugh's 49ers this year.
The team touts the league's second-best pass defense and the fifth-best rush defense. More impressively, it has done so without standout linebackers Aldon Smith and NaVorro Bowman.
Still, dealing with Manning is a different beast entirely. To make matters worse, as the injury report notes, the defense may be without its leader in the middle, Patrick Willis. As the team captures on Twitter, Harbaugh understands what a matchup with Manning means:
While a win, last week was not exactly an encouraging sign for the unit, either. The 49ers fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter against St. Louis, a team led by a backup quarterback. The unit would recover after getting punched in the mouth, but a similar early-game performance against Manning surely has more serious repercussions.
Manning still managed better than 300 yards and a pair of scores in Seattle a few weeks back, not to mention a pair of electric performances against the strong aforementioned defense of his last two opponents:
| vs. ARI | 31 | 47 | 479 | 66.0 | 4 | 2 |
| at NYJ | 22 | 33 | 237 | 66.7 | 3 | 0 |
For a defense that continues to suffer losses, the dam has to break at some point. If it is going to happen, one has to think it would come at Mile High on a short week as Manning guns for a record.
Victories in the Trenches
Albeit quietly, the Broncos rank fourth in the NFL in total defense at just 318.2 yards per game allowed. The goal this past offseason through additions such as DeMarcus Ware, Aqib Talib and T.J. Ward was to create perhaps the most balanced roster in the league.
It is hard to argue with the results so far.

Of particular concern for the 49ers, then, is a Denver rush defense that ranks fourth overall with just 76.8 yards surrendered per game. Pair that with the fact that the 49ers struggle mightily to rush the ball on the road, and the team's strength may wind up a weakness come Sunday.
While the combination of Frank Gore and rookie Carlos Hyde, among others, rumble for 4.7 yards per carry and 172.7 yards per game in the confines of home, the backfield gets just 3.6 and 99.3 away from home.
To be fair, though, Denver has a number of issues when it comes to rushing the ball, too.
Denver ranks 26th in this regard, a shocking number considering one would think the threat of Manning through the air would provide his backfield with large running lanes. Ronnie Hillman is the new lead back for the Broncos, and while his breakout game last week for 100 yards on 24 totes is nice, it will prove tougher sledding against the 49ers defense.
Given the defenses both teams tout, whichever offense falls into a one-dimensional attack may lose the game outright.

Prediction

Manning at home with his wealth of weapons is hard to ignore against a defense that showed cracks last week and sustained health setbacks during a physical encounter.
Of particular concern for the San Francisco defense is its sudden struggles against tight ends, having allowed a pair of touchdowns over the course of its past two games. Bad news—Denver tight end Julius Thomas is on pace to break records thanks to his 24 catches on 29 targets for 277 yards and nine touchdowns.
The 49ers continue to come out of the gates sluggish, having fallen behind in the first quarter in each of their past three games. On a short week against Manning, that trend will prove catastrophic.
Prediction: Broncos 27, 49ers 23
