Packers' Aaron Rodgers Becomes 2nd-Fastest to 200 Career Passing Touchdowns

Bleacher Report MilestonesOct 3, 2014

With his third of three touchdowns in Thursday's 42-10 win over the Minnesota Vikings, Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers became the second-fastest player in NFL history to throw for 200 career touchdowns, needing 99 regular-season games to get there, per the Packers' official twitter account.

Former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino holds the record, having thrown touchdown No. 200 in just his 89th game.

Rodgers set an interesting record of his own, as no quarterback has thrown fewer interceptions at the time of his 200th touchdown, per Elias Sports Bureau, via ESPN.com. Rodgers has only 53 career interceptions, while second-place Tom Brady had 88 when he reached the 200-touchdown mark.

Rodgers had an unusual game to reach the milestone, completing 12 of a mere 17 pass attempts. The Packers relied on their defense and running game against a Minnesota team led by quarterback Christian Ponder.

Of course, Rodgers did his part to secure the victory, with those 12 completions going for 156 yards and a trio of first-half touchdowns. Each of his top three wide receivers found the end zone, highlighted by Jordy Nelson's 66-yard score, which extended the lead to 14-0 in the first quarter.

Rodgers threw his 200th career touchdown around the five-minute mark of the second quarter, when he found rookie wide receiver Davante Adams on a slant route on a 3rd-and-1 from the Minnesota 8-yard line. Adams, the Packers' No. 3 wide receiver, had his first career touchdown coincide with Rodgers' 200th scoring strike.

The second-round pick out of Fresno State figures to catch plenty more touchdowns from Rodgers, as the Packers don't have an established third receiving option behind their star wide receiver duo of Nelson and Randall Cobb.

If Adams becomes that consistent third receiver, Rodgers should emerge as a candidate to win his second MVP award.
