Updates from Tuesday, Sept. 30

Mamadou Sakho has been left out of Liverpool's squad for their Champions League trip to Basel, following his recent decision to storm out of Anfield ahead of the Merseyside derby.

James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo noted the defender's absence from Tuesday's flight, while the Times' Tony Barrett confirmed Sakho was not left out due to injury:

Liverpool's Mamadou Sakho took some criticism for apparently storming out of Anfield after learning he wouldn't be in the squad for the Merseyside derby against Everton, and the French defender took to Twitter to apologise for his actions on Saturday.

The 24-year-old apparently left the stadium before the match even started, an action he told fans he regrets:

His actions were immediately condemned on social media, and Bleacher Report's Jonathan Johnson couldn't help but feel it was a sign of worse to come for the situation between Sakho and the club:

The France international was understandably disappointed at being passed over for one of the Reds' most important matches of the season, but that doesn't justify walking out on your team-mates.

Liverpool played a solid match defensively, although Phil Jagielka scored a spectacular goal from long range to equalise in stoppage time, as the fixture ended in a 1-1 draw.

Sakho's apology will ease the minds of Reds fans, but it certainly won't be the last we hear about this situation. The youngster may not be getting the minutes he believes he currently deserves, but storming out of the stadium won't help his cause.

The Reds have Champions League football on the schedule for the 2014-15 season, meaning the squad can use all of the available depth.

Sakho will get his chances, but following Saturday's events, he'll have to work hard in order to regain Brendan Rodgers' trust.
